The robotic arm moved from side to side, as if waving hello. My friend Tim was running some final tests before the MATE ROV competition, which he had been working towards with his team for months. Together they built a submarine Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) and I had the incredible opportunity to participate! The goal of the competition itself, every year, is to complete a series of tasks underwater and in a limited amount of time. Each year, though, has a general theme that is applied to the competition, such as “fixing the BP oil spill” or “detecting sunken World War ...
The field of pharmacy has always held a tremendous interest for me - ever since I was a boy, I have wanted to understand how the world works. The way things react to each other on a chemical level helps me to comprehend a sense of order to our world - a step-by-step process by which something changes into something else. The organic chemistry that goes into understanding these reactions, and pharmacy in general, is a particular passion of mine; this had led to an ardent fascination with the field.
This need for order stems from a desire to understand not just chemical reactions, but sociological ...

Economic problems are an all-round and integral part of our everyday activities. It proves that studying economics is important in order to understand the world in which we function, interact and develop as humans and parts of the global society as well as be better equipped for a beneficial participation in the global ...
One particular experience I’ve had that really gave me the chance to work closely with an ethnic community was on my Senior Design project at Drexel University. The project was called “BioSand Filter for Clean Water” and was based on Bo Kluea, Thailand, a place identified by the World Health Organization to have limited access to clean water.
The advisor chose me to be part of this project because I am Thai. While it is true that I was born and raised in Thailand, being in Bo Kluea was a much different experience than growing up in Bangkok. Bo ...

First, college education is important to me because, since my childhood years, I have always looked up to my professional parents and cousin with successful careers. For instance, my cousin would always sit down with me and talk to me about how college was like for her. She told me through her point of view why college education was important to her. She truly found out who she was and what she was capable of because of her college education. Hearing this inspires me to graduate from college. Without them I wouldn't be ...

The world has rules, which make everything to function.
Every little thing!
The names of those rules are: math and physics; and the world spins around them.
These have been my academic interests since a young age, being interested in deciphering what these world rules talked about, what orders they organize, for such perfection to occur every day, in every little thing that makes part of our life. More than that, Man has been able to constantly evolve and invent new applications for these rules, and even decipher new ones, unfolding new knowledge.
Following this same fascination, I have entered some extracurricular activities that would feed ...

I learned to be responsible from an early age. This is how I understood that proper education, clear vision and a consistent plan are key determinants to reaching my goals in life. In the same time, being a vertical, up straight person taught me to take care of other people and to aspire towards changing the world. Following Gandhi’s wisdom: “Be the change you wish to see in the world” (in Chang 113), I started with myself and asked what I could do for making the world better. My purpose on Earth is to help people and I plan on ...

The world is in a constant state of flux, changing by the moment to adapt to new environments. Empires rise and fall as steadily as the waves of the seas, and as soon as one power recedes, another one comes to fill in the vacuum that has been left in the wake of the former. From the beginning of the age of discovery until the second world war, the primary power brokers of the world were European nations. Since the end of the destruction of the Second World War, The United States of America has played an ever larger and ...

I have recognized early in life that individuals respond and react differently to challenges, depending on the person’s values and beliefs; as well as personal aspirations and goals in life. I had been destined to be one of those individuals who had to contend with life’s difficulties, particularly the need to support one’s family and loved ones as early as 11 years of age. When most of the children at that age are still being holistically supported by parents, I was already forced to work to support my family. As such, when I ...

In the modern world full of infinite possibilities we often hear a lot of motivational speeches and read numerous books in personal growth most of which claim the same: to reach anything in this life all you have to do is to clearly set your goals and define your dream/dreams. As soon as you do this, they suggest, the magic starts working.
Unfortunately, it is not how it works - having a dream is definitely not enough to make it come true. In fact, very often it is not even enough if you are working hard and doing your utmost ...

Admission Essay – Important Issue
Like many Americans, 9/11 was a profoundly affecting moment in my life – it was a stark reminder of our mortality, the world culture we live in, and the existence of those who seek nothing more than to kill in the name of their beliefs. I was in school when it happened; my teachers told us all to stay in our classrooms, and they turned on the television so we could watch the coverage. Seeing the World Trade Center towers in flames, and eventually collapse, had a powerful effect on me; I was suddenly reminded of just how unsafe I really was, and ...

“The world is not a friendly place”. I guess the first time I heard of the world’s harsh nature was when my mother told me not to talk to strangers because many children were abducted that way. My friends told me stories of nights they had been followed home by odd looking people although I figured that most of these stories were exaggerated all the same. I did not believe that the world was such an evil place, but I was an obedient child. One day, while walking home from school, my friends and I were stopped ...

An emotional challenge presented itself when my father was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer and had major surgery. This happened ten years after my parents divorced; yet, it felt like a heavy burden since we were a “close knit” family. During this time, there were temporary bouts of anxiety since this was the biggest challenge I faced. Nonetheless, coping with father’s health situation did not present a learning obstacle or hinder my academic performance. I focused on studies and finished Saline High School with a 3.0 GPA and scored 21 on the ACT. I also managed to earn “most improved” awards in basketball ...
When thinking of university education it is common to think of vertical learning; from the professor and the assistants to the student. However, another important aspect of the university experience is horizontal learning whereby we learn from our peers and colleagues. Horizontal learning is particularly important in the context of graduate education as many students bring diverse experiences with them to the classroom. The different backgrounds that are brought into the university enrich the learning environment by providing context and differing viewpoints regarding the material that is taught. Student experiences have the potential to inform both the professor and ...

Perhaps it is clichéd to say, but the world is increasingly interconnected. Jet travel and the internet facilitate international dialogue in ways hitherto unimagined. In earlier ages, for an individual to visit another nation required vast resources and involved much personal risk. However, today, direct dialogue with people on opposite ends of the earth is a commonplace occurrence, and the completion of large transactions, advanced levels of education, or negotiating the finer points of an international treaty, occurs daily using modern communication infrastructure. Today the international traveler is quite usual, and personal connections with people from other parts of ...
Todays world is fraught with difficulties. Turning on the nightly news, it seems that disasters occur on a regular basis. Families are constantly tested by circumstances that appear to be beyond individual control. Most vulnerable amongst people facing disasters, family difficulties, or other challenges are children. Children do not have the life experience that is required to make sense and come to terms with difficult situations that arise from time to time in every person’s life. Counselors provide a line of support for individuals and help them overcome their challenges.

Abstract
This admission essay answers the fictional question of what I would be or do, provided I was able to choose my own destiny. My answer to this question is that I would be a man. Here, I delve more deeply into my personal view of the differences between the two genders and why this would be my choice.

Currently, 8.2% of the labor force in American is unemployed; as it stands right now, we are neck-deep in recovering from one of the worst economic recessions this country has ever experienced (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2012). Rumor has it that Walt Disney had his body cryogenically frozen after his death from cancer in 1966, and that his remains are in a chamber below Disneyland, waiting for the day that he can be revived. If his consciousness were to be revived today and placed into another body, he would almost certainly be interested in all the latest developments in computer ...

Today’s school systems are in peril – more and more boys are dropping out of school, and academic performance is diminished across the board. The attempt to homogenize education and make one single education system work for both boys and girls is folly; all it does is leaves both sexes in poor shape for the challenges and demands of the outside world after their education career is over.

It brought poignant memories of the World Trade Center. I guess terrorism is a subject best left handled by the Administration. It left a nation scarred and the impact since 9/11 has been increased security especially at the airports, malls, tubes.
