The journal articles mainly look at the issues of the media and the efforts that have been made so far to facilitate balance of the on the content and the audience. The content being displayed on the screens depends on the target audience and on what they want to see rather than what they need to know. This is so especially for the media practitioners who are aimed at increasing their profits rather than instilling morals in the society. In his book information and the Crisis Economy, Herbert I. Schiller contends that the current proliferation of information activities and increasing sophistication of information technology they demand are the result of efforts to control the political, economical, and cultural strains produced by a general crisis in the world market system. This is a review of chapter seven of the book ‘The prospect for democratic communication.’ Schiller opens the chapter by stating that the communication process could serve constructive motives if it could draw the attention of people to the problems they face as well as offering a channel for the presentation ...
In Bettig and Hall’s article “Ad Creep: The Commercialization of Culture,” the authors discuss the phenomenon of “ad creep,” which is described as “the gradual expansion of advertising into nontraditional spaces such as public playgrounds, school buses, sidewalks, and beaches” (193). In essence, as advertisements become more and more recognizable and rejected by the public, marketers and advertisers must find new ways to incorporate their advertisements into everyday life. As a result, instead of having separate avenues for delivering advertisements (like a commercial in between programmed television), they use strategies like ‘product placement,’ ...
Introduction
The media may simply refer to tools of modern communication. In the past the media was less developed and communication was so limited. With the various technological advances, the media developed and made it possible for people to share social, economic and political information from different parts of the world. By so doing, it reduced the world into a global village. Brian Winston gives an explanation of how the media was born and how it developed over time to be what it is today. However, his explanation has attracted so many critics who have found that whatever he advocates for ...

Ageism is the stereotyping of persons purely based on their advancement in age. This led to the formation of groups such as the Americans for Generational Equity (AGE). The group aims at sensitization of issues such as the availing of resources and healthcare and resources to the elderly. However, some scholars believe that the special treatment availed to the elderly results in discrimination against the young. Recent definitions of ageism include this factor. This means that the trend involves changes in the beliefs that people have towards how they should treat people of particular age, especially the old.

In today’s information age, more and more details about people’s personal and professional lives are available than ever before. To that end, many people have concerns about how that might affect their lives and futures; how much do we want others to know about us? In Erin Moriarty’s “Did the Internet Kill Privacy?”, the journalist discusses the dangers and pitfalls of having personal information about yourself online, and how it affects one’s academic and work lives. Meanwhile, Rhonda Savage’s “Facebook: Fired Up or Just Fired?” takes a more even-handed approach to the Internet, showing both ...

Watching television by children and teenagers has brought a controversial discussion on the effects it has in childhood development. This has further been researched by many scientist giving opposing results hence leaving parents in trepidation on which side to take. The scientists have come up with opposing opinions that have been agreed by people depending on individual point of perception. Seth Mullins in his article An Argument against Television for Children provides strong and concretive evidence as to why watching television is bad for children. Conversely, Samir Vermani, M.D convinces his readers that television has no bad effect on children in ...

He closely examines “The Dailey Show”, he points out that these types of shows are harmful because they often report fake news that is not verified or had sources checked. Social media technology played a pivot role of support to protesters in Egypt, Iraq, and Tunisia. I had discussed and described the issues in a report titled ‘Arab Springs’ hoping it would support the cause of protesters. Arab Spring had an excellent use with Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube in the mission. User-friendly approaches made active users to come together for organizing protests in humongous volumes. Cutting across language barriers voice from different languages got translated through ‘transliteration’ technology to reach across the world. Anonymous peaceful supporters extended their support giving worthwhile ideas. Based on worldwide response through the power of media, ...

In the first point of the article, the author says that Talk radio's listeners are disproportionately old and male. I agree with this point because most of the young and medium-aged people are out there working, which means they have less time to listen to talk radio shows. Most young people are interested in reading articles and watching television shows, but not listening to talk radio shows. In radio programs nowadays, most shows are conservative talk programs and political talk shows. The expected audience in political shows is elder people, especially men as women are busy running other errands. ...
Victims and the Media/ Harold and Kumar/ Article Review
In today’s media crazed world, it can sometimes be difficult to identify the victim in a crisis. Through images on television, the internet, and even or cell phones, we are exposed to too many ideas that appeal to our inner ideals of who the victim may be. The greatest example, of course, is the September 11 attacks. The media scrutinized Muslims, Indians, and anybody else who fit the ideation of the terrorists who launched planes into the WTC towers. That was until the American public and many around the world were sure that the entire Middle Eastern population at ...

Imagine a world without direction or knowledge; Life on earth would be spineless. From the time kings began to send messages to far off places, information has become a part and parcel of everyday life. Alexander was known to have used the service of pigeons to send message for backups and draw battle plans. Without proper information, the world that we live in today would be nonsensical and devoid of meaning. How would one be able to gauge or judge the importance of business in a relatively unknown world of blankness? Information is what drives the world today. Thanks to the development ...

Article Review of As the internet rewires our brains by Kurt Cagle
In the article of Kurt Cagle, “As the internet rewires our brains”, the author’s main argument is that the use of social media sites is heavily valued and can decline the critical skills that children own. Social media, therefore, reduces that rate of creativity of the brain in children as the brain is always reshaping itself according to the current situation is the main argument in this article but children should not be denied ...

In 1990’s websites were used to search information when doing research for academician, people didn’t use it for other purposes. The role of the media (radio, television and cable television) was believed to educate and entertain their audiences and when cable television took over from broadcast television, there was an aura of expectations that television viewing was moving in the right direction. Sadly, that didn’t happen. Banet-Weiser, in ‘The Success Story: Nickelodeon,’ discusses the role of media in the civilized world. In what was construed to be the advent of technology that would touch the sentiments of the public, cable television became the puppet of advertisers.
In discussing the topic, the author takes the reader through the ...

functional building blocks of social media” presents several interesting questions and points.
A. Questions
1. Since the article emphasizes how social media impacts an organization, it would be worthwhile to discuss further whether companies should now develop its own set of social media policies to serve as a guideline in using social media. In the same manner that corporations develop a Code of Ethics, is it necessary for them to develop a social media policy? This is an interesting question to ask because of the huge impact of social media on corporations nowadays.

News reporting comes in various forms. Some may be in the form of newspaper articles, a television broadcast, or a radio broadcast, among others. Of the three news media, the newspaper offers a more direct and straightforward manner of news reporting, whereas the television and radio broadcasts are presented in a light manner in order to retain the attention of the audience. For newspapers, news are presented using the inverted pyramid style, which means the more important information are already mentioned to engage the reader at the beginning of the article. Technology is advancing at an alarming, almost exponential rate; as human progress increases, so does technology, and its effects on our society become somewhat more truncated. Vincent Mosco, in his article “When Old Myths Were New: The Ever-Ending Story,” notes that human society has a tendency to repeat history when it comes to technological advances; with each new stop, we hail our latest invention to be the be-all end-all for communication technology, ignoring that we have done that many times before. According to Mosco, “there is indeed a remarkably willful, historical amnesia about technology, particularly when it turns to communication and ...

Baudrillard mentions that postmodern simulacra and simulation are no longer a question of imitation but rather an analysis of how images of the real are substituting for the real. However, he does not suggest that the postmodern culture is fully artificial since the concept of artificiality still needs some sense of reality against which to recognize the deceit. To simulate refers to the pretence of having what one doesn’t have while the opposite (dissimulate) refers to the pretence of not having what one has. However, simulating is not pretending since it threatens the difference between reality and imagination while ...
Social Media has emerged rather recently, however over a few years of its existence it has penetrated numerous aspects of our lives. The speed and the scope of social media proliferation make it hard to analyse whether social media has a generally positive or negative impact, and publications in different media continuously debate on the real value of benefits that social media entails.
One of such discussions is dedicated to the question on whether “Social Media is becoming the Most Powerful Force in Global Politics". Clay Shirky, an American writer and a specialist on social effects of Internet technologies, argues that ...

They do not separate marketing from their in store experience. This shift presents a challenge that everyone is responsible for marketing. However, in reality this problem is identical to the one from the early days of quality movement before it became embedded in the general management.
