Background of Trucking Deregulation in the US
Trucking was primarily a highly regulated industry in the United States (US), mainly because rail freight was initially preferred for transporting goods, particularly heavy materials. The Motor Carrier Act of 1935 imposed a restriction on the entry of new players in the trucking industry and the specification of certain truck routes under the administration of the Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC).
