The narrator of the story, The Black Cat is an insane man. There is a horde of evidence throughout the story to prove this assertion. The actions, the hallucinations and the uncontrollable fits of rage all prove that the narrator is insane.
The narrator has a divided self or consciousness. There are several issues he does not see about himself. First he does not realize that he is explaining more about his unstable mind and uncontrollable fits of anger and less about the influence of alcohol in his life. The narrator wants to “place before the world, succinctly, plainly a series ...

Our family favored pets ever since I was little: we had at least one animal in our apartment at a time. However, there was that one pet, that one cat that was different from every other living thing that shared a life with us at our home. Its name was Tom, he was a simple domestic cat, a gray one. He was an extremely beautiful and smart cat. We grew up together; he was 5 months old when he first entered the threshold of our door. I got him from a friend whose female cat has given birth to six kittens.
There it ...

Definition of learning
We use the term 'learning' the whole time in our day-to-day life. But do we actually know the actual meaning of this word and its real significance? Almost everything that people do, any action they take is the consequence and result of preceding learning and experience yet. On the other hand, for some people learning is still associated exceptionally with the educational process. Such idea of the concept of learning is not quite correct. Throughout our lives learn a disorderly variety of skills. For instance, as infants we learn to eat, to draw attention to ourselves, to crawl, to make ...

Introduction
Edgar Allan Poe ‘s poems are best known for their deep meaning and distinct presentation of particular elements that make up the overall concept of what reality is all about. In a way, the creative process of thinking that Poe has basically imposed in most of his works transcends a distinct pillar of his being, as if sharing not only his thoughts but his individuality to his readers. Practically, this approach has made Poe’s poems to be among the most read and most analyzed ones. Among the themes used by Poe in presenting his poems to the public ...
When deciding to adopt a pet, a person usually needs to consider his or her preferences, as well as the possible changes in the lifestyle. While many people know whether they like cats or dogs more and are, thus, guided by this factor in their decision, there are also those, who do not have a preference, and this is the time when such people need to consider cons and pros of owning one or another. Although both cats and dogs are both the most popular choices among other pets, they differ greatly in their attitude toward the owners, their habits, as well ...

A literacy narrative is a first-hand narrative of a piece of work written by someone in the simplest and informative manner possible. Often, literacy narratives are on personal incidents that took place in one’s life at some point of time, and involve events, people, situations, and places. It is about talking about a particular incident where you won or lost, failed or succeeded or just about anything that comes to mind that had an impact on his or her life. There are times when you say something that is not what you wanted to say, and since you said it, find ...
- Feminist Criticism of Cat in the Rain by Ernest Hemmingway
The Short story presents to the reader a desperate wife immersed in the world of boredom, and her husband does nothing to improve the situation. Instead, the husband makes it worse because he does not pay attention to her. She is suffering in isolation in an Italian hotel by the beach far away from home. This short story fits into the feminist criticism because it is evident there is the presence of a patriarchal figure who seems superior to the woman, who wants her freedom from her confinement. Male ...
"Every morning was a cheerful invitation to make my life of equal simplicity, and I may say innocence, with Nature herself. I have been as sincere a worshipper of Aurora as the Greeks. I got up early and bathed in the pond; that was a religious exercise, and one of the best things which I did. They say that characters were engraven on the bathing tub of King Tching-thang to this effect: "Renew thyself completely each day; do it again, and again, and forever again." I can understand that. Morning brings back the heroic ages. I was as much affected by the ...
There are quite a number of actions in the play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare that makes the characters look foolish. The foolishness to a huge extent can be attributed to their actions with regard to their love issues. The female characters can be seen to be acting foolish in the name of love. Hermia and Helena do so in their own free will but Titania does so because of the spell that she was put under, Demetrius and Lysander ore epitomes of foolish love when they keep playing around with these women.
The female characters are ...
An argument to support a claim that Edgar Allen Poe uses a repertoire of strategies to create suspense in the Raven, The Black Cat, and the Tell Tale Heart.
Edgar Allen Poe is a master in creating tension and this is present in several of his stories among which one may count The Raven, The Black Cat and the Tell Tale Heart. Tension is an important part of Poe’s strategy since we never seem to know what is coming next and this culminates in a frenetic sense of energy and momentum in the story. Poe relies on a number of techniques in ...

One of the most celebrated works of the American composer George Gershwin is entitled Rhapsody in Blue, which features a notable crossover between the sounds of a classical piano piece and Jazz masterpiece. It is not first the time that such musical piece grazed the concert halls and the ears of critiques, but what sets Gershwin’s piece apart from genre is its unique sound, which conveys specific mood. Rhapsody in Blue encompasses happy trails on a gloomy avenue kind of mood like riding down the yellow brick road in a wicked forest. The piece sustains the same mood throughout until the end, ...
Describe a test to determine whether the gene is dominant or recessive.
Gregory Mendel is well known scientist who discovered existing patterns in traits inheritance passed from an organism to its offspring. Gregory’s findings led to the establishment of Mendel laws. These laws include; the law of dominance, isolation and Independent assortment. In the case of Curly-eared Cat, mutant gene can either be recessive or dominant. For instance, if a person owns a curled cat and wants to establish if the gene is dominant or recessive, then the following steps can be adopted.
First, begin the test by taking the cat to mate with a wild type with a true breeding recessive. A ...
Description of Myself
I am a strong and reliable woman. I have a great sense of humor, which is the reason why friends like hanging out with me. In me emanates a sense of strength that makes people gravitate towards me. I may look meek on the outside, but deep inside is a strong person who knows what she wants in life. Thus, if I were to choose an object to describe myself, I would say I am a soft and fluffy stuff toy. Mind you, I am not just your ordinary stuffed doll because I am a kitty stuff toy.

The short story ‘The Black Cat’ by Edgar Allan Poe can be categorized under the sub-genre Psychological Horror as it is based on events and incidents that take place mainly due to the mental illness that the narrator, who refers himself throughout the story as ‘I’, is going through and has no control over. The story revolves around the idea of how a human mind has the unbelievable capabilities of doing dark and perverse acts that are beyond the imagination.
The narrator at the beginning comes out as being a normal person who loves animals and is spending a simple life ...

Introduction
Edgar Allan Poe is a narrator who we can describe as nervous but not mad. What he thinks is that when we read his two outstanding pieces of work, we probably think that he is insane but this is not true. What we perhaps call his madness fails to be his madness but a sense of hearing acute in him. In addition, Edgar believes that the quick, low dull sound- much like a sound made by the watch enveloped in cotton is actually the song of the beating heart of an old man. Those believes, which the narrator has are ...

These events include; omens, witchcraft, astrology among others and which contradicts the natural science. For that reason, superstitious belief is the notion that an activity or a ritual can have a negative or positive impact on ...

In Charles Perrault's Master Cat, or Puss in Boots, the titular cat is shown to be able to deceive many others in his journey in order to get him and his poor master ahead in life. The moral of the story is meant to be that self-reliance is good, but the poor miller relies more and more on the cat's instructions and deceit to get what he wants. He gets everything handed to him on a silver platter, instead of actually working within his means and dealing with his situation himself. There are three things that can easily be pointed ...

Cats have been living with us for thousands of years. As opposed to other domestic animals like cows and sheep that provide as with food and other raw materials, it has never been clear the main reason why human domesticated cats. However, others believe that cats were domesticated just to be pets, to keep human company. This research will not major in the reason as to why cat was domesticated, but rather will focus on the origin of the domesticated ...

Although every time it is told, it sounds interesting, its central feature remains that the cat tricked the mouse and, later on, feed on him and that no one should ever trust a cat to stay ...

The story of an hour centers on a young woman who is married, and it is indicating her reaction to her husband’s death in a train accident (Chopin n.d). The cat in the rain is also a short story of an American wife who is suffering from the mistreatment she is receiving from her husband. She figures herself in the cat that she sees in the rain thus goes ahead to look for that Cat (Hemingway, n.d). This paper will discuss how the two authors use contrasting or similar elements of fiction, the impact of those items on ...
When I was a child, my relationship to animals was very close. The neighborhood children and I often included family pets in our games as if they were one of us. Dogs enjoy many of the same games that children spend their days playing. They enjoy frisbee, hide-and-seek, tag, and imaginary adventures of exploration. In a few cases they patiently submitted to being dressed up in baby clothes and became part of the family when we played house. Even though we were the “owners” of these dogs, we never thought of ourselves that way. To us, they were equal members of ...

Mind Map for the differences between humans and cats
Humans and cats are different in several ways. The variance surfaces in various ways. They differ in their vision, dentitions, organs and the brain system. Firstly, humans and cats differ in the brain systems. The cats’ whiskers are a crucial part of their sensory mechanism. These whiskers are deeply rooted in follicles in the muscle tissues rich in sensory nerves and cells connected to the brain. As such, the whiskers are important to the cats. These whiskers are scanning systems to detect items before the cats can touch them. Slight air movements cause vibrations of the whiskers, which send significant ...

Modernism was born out of the instability caused by World War I. People began to question the foundations of authority, as well as their social and cultural traditions. This unease is brought not only by the war, but also the increasing developments in politics, economics and science (Wrenn, 2010), liberating many traditions and perspectives. It is marred by “the struggle for knowledgesenselessness and alienation” (Wrenn, 2010). Literature was not immune to these changes, thus the modernist literary movement emerged. Here we analyze Chopin’s The Story of the Hour and Hemingway’s The Cat in the Rain to look ...

Plato is one of the most influential philosophers in western philosophy. His main contribution in philosophical thought is the theory of ideas, also dubbed by many critiques as “Plato’s Idealism” (Nellickappilly 1). Upon careful analysis of Plato’s idealism, it is inferred that while it has many flaws, it still contributed significantly to the development of human knowledge and philosophical thought.
Strengths and Weaknesses
When it comes to flaws or weaknesses, diverse critiques point out that Plato’s idealism is not logical and is hard to understand. In order to understand these criticisms it is first essential to understand what this ...

The article by Crafton is devoted to the profound analysis of major characteristics of a famous silent animated series “Felix the Cat” and investigation of the work of people who made efforts for creating the character of Felix and the series as a whole. It is noticed that “Felix the Cat,” which was created in the cooperation of Otto Messmer and Pat Sullivan, “was the quintessential cartoon of the 1920s and the favorite of growing number of aficionados of the medium” (Crafton 301). Thus, it is hugely fascinating to increase the knowledge on the cartoon.

Many people do not have a clear understanding as to what amodal perception is. For the purposes of this paper, the definition assumed for this term is found in the encyclo.co.uk (2012), which defines it as the phrase or term used to refer to describe the perception of an object in its totality only when a portion of it is visible. This is where the confusion comes I n since when people try to look at the unseen portion, they tend to define it in many different ways. There is, therefore, the need to look at the issue in detail and ...

Cats and humans share a great number of traits, most of them plainly observable. Among those is our shared tendency to sleep in certain observable ways. Among others, they experience the same phases of sleep we do: a single phase of Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep, along with four stages of Non-REM sleep which form a predictable cycle. (NINDS)
Observing two sleeping cats -- one sitting up, eyes closed and motionless except for an occasional rotation of the ear or motion of the whisker; the other curled up, mostly flaccid but with paws and lips twitching -- these two kinds of ...
This story is entertaining and interesting. The use of dialogue is excellent, but work needs to be done on tightening the story and making it relevant to a central theme.
I enjoyed reading Tale of the Tall Tailed Cat. In particular, I found the dialogue effective; for the most part it moved the story forwards as well as introducing readers to the characters. I particularly liked the protagonist and the way that his relationship with his parents was demonstrated. Furthermore, many people are nervous of writing dialogue, but you are clearly not, which is great. Incidentally, I am assuming the ...

Thesis: Communication accommodation theory (CAT), speech codes theory and Peplau’s interpersonal theory provide three distinct means by which greater communication can be accomplished within health care contexts.

Authored by Tennessee Williams, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is a fascinating play revolving round the story of a neurotic, dysfunctional family steeped in hidden deceptions and hypocrisy. The play was adapted into a film in 1958 under the direction of Richard Brooks. Released by MGM studio with starlets like Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman in central roles of Brick and Maggie, the film won a superb commercial success. Though Richard Brooks retained much of Tennessee Williams' original prose and conversation intact, he made few alterations in the story. He added some new dialogues, curtailed the parts of Gooper and Mae and made ...
Dogs and cats can both make wonderful pets. There are similarities between them but also a number of differences.
Dogs are commonly referred to as ‘man’s best friend.’ This is, presumably, due to their loyal and sociable nature. Dogs can become extremely attached to their owners and would guard and defend them against anyone they considered to be a threat. Dogs are highly trainable and, very often, can be taught to come to their owners, sit and stay on command, among a variety of other actions. Moreover, most dogs are eager to please and enjoy being obedient to their owners. They are driven by a desire to know where they are in the pack order of the home, and to ...
David Sedaris’s Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk is a collection of short stories, which are thought-provoking, symbolic, interpretative and at times delusional. Through the world of animals, the author immerses the reader into the world of morals, contrasts and human-relatable relationship patterns. The main devices, used for this, are personification and irony. With personification it is more or less straightforward: animals represent people, which adds spice and expressiveness to the stories. Irony, however, is used in its full force, making each story somewhat grasping and multi-layer, adding deep surface meaning to it. Overall, the purpose of the book is to ...

In the modern time where domestication of animals has been greatly appreciated, human beings have gone a step higher to treat the animals in a closer manner. It is not uncommon to spot people with either a dog or cat that they closely associate and identify themselves with; creating a closer relationship than the one they would have with ordinary dogs or cats. Despite the facts that these animals do not perform their ideal purpose, such as providing security in case of dogs, people have kept them for company. As such, the animals are kept for a completely different purpose. Pets have ...
Maus is one of the most significant and powerful artworks, produced by an American Jewish artist or writer, regarding the Holocaust, which Spiegelman indicates as “things that happened before young Germans were even born” (461). In addition, Spiegelman has also put it clearly that the community that people live in is threatening and can cause trauma. However, he asserts that the Jewish community has remained bound together, despite the challenges they face. The author gives his family’s life and, the language and images ...

This due to the expression of both the dominant allele (XB) resulting in patches of their coat being orange and the recessive allele (Xb) which results in patches of their coat being black. This is a result of one of the X chromosomes being inactivated during development. So some epithelial ...

Altruism according to Vonnegut entails the devotion to see others make it through situations difficult for them at the expense of the one assisting them in the move. Notably, altruism in nature and in human society may not be possible since it is impeded by aspects which are specific in nature and in human society. In most cases, altruism will not be practiced in human society owing to the interests that different people have which may conflict hence placing a barrier to its dispensation. Nevertheless, different individuals or groups have different takes on this aspect and will act according based ...
