The Human Genome Project
The Human Genome Project (HGP) began with a very ambitious goal, which was “to map and sequence the entire human genome--some 3 billion base pairs that make up approximately 80-100,000 genes--and the genomes of related model organisms by the year 2005” (Meslin, Thomson, & Boyer 1997, p. 291).
