For the analysis I have chosen a news article from the CNN website, it is called “Cute or creepy? This toy lets babies post selfies on Facebook”.
The article is about Laura Cornet – an Eindhoven Design Academy graduate, who is annoyed by the constant posts with pictures of babies and newborns in her Facebook news feed. Thus, she puts forward an idea that parents do not consult with their kids before posting their photos; there is no agreement between them, and actually, they have no right to do this. As a result, Laura Cornet creates a toy that gives an opportunity ...

(Becker 2009)

“What is America” by Jesse Gordon is a collection of 24 photos of diverse individuals who seemed to come from different ethnic, racial, and cultural backgrounds. As evident from the title, it could be deduced that this question was asked to these different people and their responses were noted below the respective photos. The photo-essay therefore showed, in addition to the faces of these individuals, the flag of the United States of America, being held across their chests. Thus, it was interesting to note that the responses to the question was unique and distinct to these individuals, depending on ...
Chapter Analysis
This chapter begins with interior monologue/meditation of one Walt Whitman, who tries to distinguish between beauty and ugliness, valuable concepts and useless ones; from the annals of cultural heritage. Then, he finds it unnecessary to try to establish the differences highlighted above unless they are necessary. He then resorts to accept the actual reality of the American experience.
There was a purported cultural revolution, which was to happen in 1855, archived in the book leaves of grass first edition. However, the much-anticipated revolution did not take place because it is virtually impossible for anyone single poet to change the ...
Victims of Violence
Photographs portray deeper messages than written stories hence have over time become the major methods journalists use to ensure their stories stick. Pulitzer Prizes are given to journalists who have the most gruesome photographs. Readers ethically get repulsed by such images despite the fact that they really want to know what happened.
The immediate impact of these photos is that they spark emotional response. Photos have a greater impact in the transmission of the message than written words (Godwin 1983). Many people who are not addicted to reading or rather can’t read at all at least peruse the ...
It has been slightly over a decade since the infamous Tom launched the first major social network, Myspace. The site provided a way for current friends to chat and old friends to reconnect. It was not long before Myspace became an epicenter for new and old friendships, as well as a display of the individual’s personality, making it aptly titled. With the progression of Myspace, and other social networks like Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram have stopped encouraging friendships and started encouraging the sharing of thoughts and photos. What was once a tool for connection to others, a network, had become an instrument ...
The article The art motive in photography has been written by Paul Strand for the British journal of photography. The article aimed at defining art motives in photography. In the article, the author argues that nowadays photography has become thoughtless. The point is that nowadays, photographing tolls (such as camera) are available and every person is able to buy it. The usage of different filters, as one of the main ways of bettering a photograph, kills photography as art. The author of the article stated that modern photographers would never be able to create something original and unique because they ...

Privacy law is a vast area of law that encompasses many things from data collection and security to photography. Although there is no specific United States Constitutional Amendment which guarantees the right to privacy in the same way that the right to free speech and the right to bear arms is guaranteed in the Bill of Rights, the right to privacy is presumed from the interpretation of other rights guaranteed by the Constitution primarily in the Ninth and Fourteenth Amendments. Furthermore, a number of state and federal laws have been enacted to protect the privacy of individuals. Similarly, a significant percentage of ...

Before the discovery of Atget’s photography, photographs were not known as a form of documentary. Eugene Atget, who was an only child and an orphan from the age of five, started photography as a profession when he was forty years old. This is after he had been a sailor and an actor. Atget’s work was not recognised until later by an American called Man Ray who introduced his work to the world thus making it popular and famous. Eugene Atget is known as the founder of modern photography and street photography. This is because his focus was on the pre-French ...

Abstract
Photography is more a form journalism than art. It is these pictures that are used to influence the way people think in life. As a form of art, pictures would not be able to influence people’s thoughts and ideas but would instead be a source of amusement. I would care if I realized that the photo in a magazine or newspaper had been manipulated. Unfortunately, few are the times that one realizes of any manipulation in a picture. However, in the case that I came to realize of any manipulation, I would have a lot of questions left unanswered, such as, why the publisher ...
Darkness and Light, the documentary film by Helen Whitney, follows the life’s work of Richard Avedon, a legend who sparked a revolution in the world of fashion and portrait photography. The documentary provides viewers with in-depth insight into the inspirations, personal life, and work ethics of Avedon. The thing that stands out about Avedon after watching the documentary is the fact that he tries to nurture perceptions that are discarded by most people.
Richard Avedon appears to be a photographer who is really in tune with himself. It is easy to be impressed by Avedon, mainly because of his never ...

This manner of documentation requires time and effort on the part of researcher. Thus, various ways to ...
The cover of the February 2014 edition of Vanity Fair was a real head turner for me. It featured the Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon flanked by two bikini clad ladies. This cover stood out from the humdrum crowd of magazine covers peppered with words and some male or female model looming large. This basic template is also followed by Vanity Fair but nonetheless it is attractive especially to the metro-sexual and the chic and happening crowd. What makes it attractive to this hip crowd is the mention of Jimmy Fallon along with the promise of discussing the really attractive ...

The rapid expansion of social networks has come under a lot of scrutiny in recent years and rightly so. With millions of users and a huge array of different networks, social networking has entered into the mainstream and from the looks of it, it will remain the same way for a coming decade or so. Simply put, social networking is a term used to describe the use of certain social networks to communicate and interact with each other. Whether it is done through a cell phone, laptop or a desktop computer, social networking allows people to catch up with others anywhere in the world, transcending ...
For my narrative reflection and journey into a visual experience I chose to visit the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. It exhibited many pieces I was able to connect to McCloud’s theories about closure and visual literacy (6). Certain pieces stood out more than others, inanimately, but somehow speaking to me. Collections spoke, punctuated, and ended themselves as comics do with direction, icons, and framework. McCloud’s philosophy on our sense of self in relation to what we see around us was also very present during my excursion (10). I saw myself differently depending on what exhibit I ...

A hospital is a place that draws out certain core emotions—hope and fear. Some people come to hospitals looking forward to getting cured from their ailments. Others arrive with the fear that this might be the last place that they visit. A lot of times, people stay in hospitals for extended periods. In addition, white hospital walls and being cooped up in a room for a long time can be fairly exhausting.
Most hospitals have chapels where relatives, friends, and patients themselves can come to. Here they find peace of mind, pray to God, and hope that the experience puts ...
A picture is worth a thousand words, definitely pictures can express human thoughts, emotions and dreams that can never be uttered by the lips. Back then, people can record physical appearance and historical events through paintings. On the other hand, a Frenchman named Joseph Niepce took the first permanent photograph in 1827 (Madgwick, 28). Photography made it easier for people to record history without resorting to paint the entire scenery that they see. Rich men and women, especially those who belong to the aristocracy choose photography for their personal portraits; adding a touch of modernism to their noble countenance. In short, the ...
There are many photographers that I admire, so it took me a while to choose only one to write about. Finally, I stopped my choice on an inspiring modern wildlife photographer and a winner of a number of BBC Wildlife awards, Nature’s Best and European Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards Andy Rouse. The first photograph shows five young boys frolicking in the cold. One boy is flailing his arms and one can almost imagine him moving his legs in an animated way. His jacket is much too big for him. The central shot of the photograph is centered on a younger boy, dressed in a hoodie and appears to have been hit with a snowball with some remnants of snow still visible. He is cold and shivering, but the subjects of this photograph seem immune to the cold, as is typical of youngsters.
The black and white background of the photograph is a stark ...

The word ‘picture’, used colloquially, is also nonspecific. A picture book could be a book of drawings or photographs, and in common speech a painting, drawing, or simply a print is often called a picture. Equally important Crimp defines a picture in its verb form to refer to a mental process as the production of an aesthetic object.
The rationale behind Crimp definition is that he moves away from the catalogue text for pictures and focuses on specific issues and an aesthetic phenomenon of a picture. Aesthetic, in the world of art, is used to illustrate the principles and position of nature, as well as ...
Chuck Close’s “Frank”: Everyman as Art
The late author Douglas Adams said that art is holding a mirror up to the Universe – although he then pointed out that there was not a mirror big enough, since the Universe was infinite in size. So what’s an artist to do? American artist Chuck Close brings that mirror down to size by making his subject huge. In “Frank” (1969), a grey-toned acrylic painting of a black-and-white photograph, an everyday man becomes a monumental work of art. Close shows that the everyman is just as valid a subject for art than classical themes or the upper class.
It has only been very recently ...

Photoshop is one of the most used software for arts in the current world (“Photoshop History (Exclusive Article),” 2007). People manipulate photos to enhance their looks. One end application of sensors is in the food manufacturing industry. Modern packaging of consumer foods frequently uses Vertical Form Fill Seal (VFFS) packaging technology. A continuous flexible film with registration marks is used as packaging material. The packaging film is pulled through a collared tube and then filled with the product. These are the vertical forming and filling steps. It is then sealed and cut at the same time to produce finished goods in pouches. This is the sealing step.
Proper sequencing is needed in this application. This is facilitated with the use of sensors. A combination of ...
Morality or Ethical thinking has a huge impact on any given society that one wanders into from time to time. This thinking actually develops the norms and culture of a society and can, therefore, be credited with the creation of basic fundamentals for any living society that exists or has existed over the years. Modern trends in photography are the logical development of ideas and aspirations that we see in the works of artists of the IX – XX centuries.
Thus we can clearly see the similarity in the closely cropped low-key lighting portraits, that are so popular today and the ones, created almost century and a half ago by Julia Margaret Cameron. The way she used to shoot expressive portraits of celebrities, not widely appreciated in her own day, became widespread among world-class photographers nowadays.
