Introduction
The Scottish National Party (SNP) has gradually gained popularity among citizens in Scotland since its creation in the 1930s, and is now the third largest party in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. In 2011 the SNP made history when it gained the majority of seats in the Scottish Parliament. For the first time in history the SNP had a majority government, and so began their journey towards independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
