The semester system of university instruction goes back centuries, to the very first established universities in Europe. Currently, about nine out of ten secondary four-year institutions in the United States still use the semester system, while only eight percent (including CSU East Bay) use the quarter system (Oregon University System). It is true that the advent of the online class and of mini-classes, which get a semester’s worth of hours into a week, has changed university instruction. While the quarter does increase flexibility in a number of areas, that flexibility ultimately ends up diluting the depth and quality of instruction and ...

Particularly last semester, I did encounter various challenges, both academic and social. In handling the challenges, I made quite a number of mistakes. Most notably, I made ethical mistakes of many types. Fortunately, I managed to ...

I have learned and developed my skills extensively through the course work’s writing exercises. The exercise demanded to write various papers and projects that were assigned by the lecturers. As a beginner, I had so many challenges which are discussed below. Keeping time was one of my primary challenges. Since all the writing has the deadline for submission, it was tough for me to meet the period because I saw the time given was too short for the paper or perhaps my speed was too slow. Therefore, I did not satisfy most of the deadlines and ended up ...
This semester at the University of South Alabama has been very enlightening for me, as I have overcome many obstacles and now feel much more mature and prepared both academically and emotionally. I decided to apply to this University for several reasons, including its rich history considering that its origin goes back to the 1800s. The main factor that drove me to this school is the highly recognized quality of its undergraduate and graduate academic programs, for which the University of Alabama is consistently ranked among the best 50 public universities in the US.

It is crazy to think that the semester is almost over. This semester has gone by so quickly and I have learnt what feels like a wholecompletely new language in such a short amount of time. The good thing is that I feel like everything I have learnt in this course is what I need to know going on to getting a job as a Librarian after I complete my Education. Across this semester in Information Programs I have learnt about the different learning activities across the semester have given me a practical understanding of each of these areas. I found a lot of topics ...
Looking back throughout the semester, I can confidently say that my writing has improved, and I am now a better writer than I was at the beginning of the semester. There are three areas where I feel that I have shown tremendous improvement, and this includes writing a thesis statement, giving my paragraphs depth and detail and assessing the relevant materials to use in my work. However, although I have improved in these three areas, I still need more work on organizing my essays and transiting from one idea to another. This semester has been crucial in improving my writing, especially ...

I fell out of status in the fall semester of my freshman year at university. This was mainly down to a mistake made by both myself and one of my professors. In the first semester, I was struggling to adapt to ...

Ms. Jarzabski,
I am writing this letter to appeal my dismissal from Western New England University based on my poor academic performance last semester. While I was not completely surprised by my dismissal, I was nonetheless upset and disappointed in myself when I received the official notification.
I will not attempt to make any excuses for my subpar performance; the bottom line is that I failed to live up to my potential as a student. I underestimated the time and effort it takes to be successful at the college level. ...
Personal Narrative: A Life Changing Situation
The day had finally come, my most awaited day. I was moments away from walking to the podium and receive my diploma. It was a moment like no other. I have never understood why I was so excited. Was everybody else receiving their diploma as thrilled as I was? As I waited in the queue, images and thoughts swirled rapidly captivating my mind. I was simply in a trance. I was recounting the many days and sleepless nights I spent studying for me to reach this moment of my life (Birch 17). All the time turned around and gazed at the ...
- Self Analysis
It is difficult to talk about oneself without appearing either too judgmental or too self-serving, but it is important to find a balance for the purpose of the discussion of self-analysis. I consider myself a conceptual person. I have always enjoyed working with ideas to achieve more efficient productivity, to work smarter not harder, and to see problems as they fit into the larger context of projects or ideal states. The corresponding roles to someone like me include creator and linker.
Realizing that this observation is self-perception, which is prone to number biases or blinders, I ...

IM PERCEPTION BEFORE SEMESTER
Before the semester, I had a different opinion and perception of IM. I thought that the information management only involved information from technological sources and the overall technological sector. I thought that the management of information involved only the management of information technology systems. I had several misconceptions and myths concerning information management. Firstly, I thought that the plans for disaster recovery were only for the firms with critical data. Moreover, I thought that the relational database models were the best models for the decision support systems of information management. Moreover, I thought that the ...
Information Management for Library Study
Information Management for Library Study
Before the start of semester what did you think IM was about?
Information Management or IM sounds overwhelming. It seems very technical. It is commonly attributed to the Internet these days. Before the semester, the closest idea I had about IM involved news articles, signing up for social media membership, social media sharing, and uploading and downloading files, turning them into archives. All of these are pieces of information. Certainly, each of this piece of information is, as mentioned, archived or organized. The process of organizing these bits of information is what Information Management, I thought, was all about.
What do you think IM is about now that you have completed the semester?
Now that I have completed the semester, ...

One of the greatest events I remember this semester is the live concert I attended at the J.K Theatre. On that night, I knew I would be entertained like no any other day before. The band members which consisted of soloist, vocalists and the instrumentalists were organized in a very admirable manner. I was particularly delighted by their unique uniform which produced attractive colors from the ...
For me, communication for me is everything that happens. There are many ways to communicate, including verbalizing, body language, facial expression, and others. According to the text book, Thinking Through Communication (17), “A good definition of communication tells us which behaviors count as communication and which do not. It also describes the essential characteristics of communications.” In my opinion, everything that the book says is true; the behavior exhibited from a person when you speak to him or her can tell you a great deal about what the person is thinking or feeling.
DISCUSSION
Not many things in life occur without communication. ...
Education has taken on many forms during the course of human history. The ancient Greeks sat outdoors while their teachers used a series of questions and answers to communicate their ideas to their students. This idea of a teacher standing before a student and either delivering information verbally or using a series of questions and answers would remain the predominant method of instruction until the wave of educational theories that began to crop up with the discovery of different learning styles. Group-based learning became popular in the 1970s, but the idea that all of a teacher’s students, at least within the same section, ...

FIU is giving students the opportunity to live on campus so they can be close to all their needs in school and do not have to worry about paying anything beside one semester rent.
