What is the relationship between the predicted outcome and the claim being tested in scientific experiment? An experimented outcome can be compromised in two ways. What are they and how do they differ?
The predicted outcome is a common aspect of science with a particular interest in scientific research studies. In science, questions about truth and the claims of certain phenomena are answered through empirical evidence. Nevertheless, there are instances where scientists make educated guesses on a particular test subject. A predicted outcome can be proved right based on measurable evidence in a hypothesis experiment. On the other hand, ...

This project is centered on applying scientific methods to study human behavior through the gathering of baseline information. The first half of the research will be a naturalistic observation focusing on a behavior, specifically on the use of eye contact between people walking inside the mall, in which the observer remains unobtrusive. The second half of the research will be an experiment, in which a variable is introduced that would either increase or decrease a behavior. The objective is to take note of the behavior change resulting from the variable, which will lead to a particular theory concerning the ...
The article, The Perils of Obedience, written by psychologist Stanley Milgram describes his experiment which sought to test how much pain an ordinary person could inflict on another because they have been ordered to do so by someone in authority. It is set around the 1960s, written as a scholarly contribution to Yale University. The article examines obedience in an attempt to define the extent to which obedience can go and the impact that it has on conduct. Milgram holds that obedience is paramount to many; obeying authority counts even where that that goes against one’s conscience.
The ...
Abstract
The experiment was done to investigate the relative roughness of pipe three though a plot of the friction factor verses the Reynolds number. A comparison of the obtain results was made against a Moody diagram. Also, additional comparison of the experimental results obtained from pipe 1 and 2 were made against theoretical values obtained through Prandtl and Blasius equations. This process entailed plotting the theoretical and the experimental values on the same comparative roughness against Reynolds number chart. Additional results of different types of flow, exhibited by the flowing fluid, was done and represented in a graph of head ...
In his article, “The Perils of Obedience,” author and psychologist Stanley Milgram argues that most people obey the authority even when they know that their moral judgement is sufficient enough to determine right from wrong. In ordinary life, a person's conscience conflicts with the need to obey authority. Most decisions in life are made to appease the authority figure that a person's wishes in life. In the ‘blind experiment,' the teacher and the learner were used to determine the level at which punishment affects learning (Milgram 4). In particular, the point at which a person stops inflicting pain ...
Preamble
Children with challenging behavior might pose a danger to themselves or to others. You might have been informed about the challenge of aggressive behavior and the resulting injuries such as lacerations on the students and broken fingers of the teachers as well as the problem of student elopement. There is a proposal to use electric shock devices as an aversion and behavior control technique. This technique is used in other schools in different states. This technique has also gained interest from both side of the argument divide. In advising on the use of the electric shock device an aversion ...
Research is essential for the advancement of any field of study. Nevertheless, this becomes complicated when the object of the investigation is a human, as there is an accepted guideline that one should not do harm onto a person. In order to assure proper treatment of humans, ethical committees have arisen in many parts of the world, limiting the research that may be done. However, this comes into tension when one also takes into account the notion of liberty, as the two could contradict each other.
In this sense, some would argue that ethics committees should not interfere in ...
The Purpose of the Study
The study was an isometric fieldwork study. The aim of the study was to test impulsivity. Impulsivity is a construct in an individual that entails the tendency of a person to follow whims (Baumeister & Vohs, 2013). An impulsive person displays behavior that shows little regard for the consequences of the actions. The behavior of an impulsive person also shows little evidence of reflection and forethought (Baumeister & Vohs, 2013). The focus on impulsivity as a concept is based on the long-term effects of impulsive behavior. The fact that impulsive actions are not conceived with the benefit of objectivity means that ...
Validity in Research Design
Validity in Quantitative Research Designs
Validity refers to the degree to which physical evidence supports an experimental concept or conclusion. In statistics, it refers to the level of confidence that researchers hold on a particular causal effect of an experiment. The most common challenges to internal validity in the research design occur from the selection process of target population as well as the sample size (Yuan et al., 2009).In particular, the selection process in the article reflects only persons who have volunteered for the research. Ideally, this represents a threat to internal validity since the individuals used in ...
In the article, The Stanford Prison Experiment by psychologist Philip G. Zimbardo, he describes an experiment that was aimed at demonstrating the influence of situational power on a person’s standards, morals, and attitudes. The experiment intended to explore the relationship between the guards and the prisoners, which ended up showing a deterioration of the established rules and morals that guide the manner in which individuals should behave towards each other. In that, the experiment showed the degeneration of character was so extreme, rapid, and unpredicted to the extent that it was to be cut short after six days, ...
Ahmed, Sofe (2012). Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalytic theory Oedipus complex: A critical study with reference to D. H. Lawrence’s “Sons and Lovers”, Internal journal of English and literature Vol. 3(3), pp. 60-70.
Summary Annotation
One of the most often argued critical and debatable questions of modern psychology and literature is definitely Sigmund Freud and his Oedipus complex. Introducing his theory in the field of modern psychology and literature trend, Freud initiated the confrontation of opinions. However, there exist a lot of other valuators, according to which, Freud’s concept of Oedipus complex should be treated with great respect. Outstanding ...
Abiotic factors which include climate are known to affect plant growth. Elevation which influences the climatic conditions can directly affect the tree height. The trees in higher elevation are thought to be shorter than trees in lower elevation because of the low temperatures which directly affects the height of trees. The experiment was done to ascertain tree height difference and to fulfil the deadline. The hypothesis for the experiment was that trees in lower elevation grow taller than trees at a higher elevation. The methodology for the experiment included measuring tree height in high and low elevations. Tree height ...

The “Scientific Method” characterizes science from other fields of studies. It encompasses methodologies of scientific inquiry that follow certain patterns to easily obtain and make experimentation easier. The scientific method is improved as science and technology progress but it has the following general parts that are universal: a. identifying the problem statement, b. formulation of hypotheses, c. observation from sampling, measurement and description of the data obtained, d. formulation of inductions, e., employing theories and finally, f. formation of conclusion (Oxford University Press). These steps are greatly relevant to obtain the desired data for an experiment and with the ...
Introduction: All most all metals are unstable when exposed to air. This is because of the tendency of the metal to be converted into its oxidized form on reaction with air. When compared to zinc, iron has a greater tendency to form oxidized form and thus has greater susceptibility to corrosion. The ability of metals to react with air varies and this determines their relative stability. As zinc is much stable when compared to iron, it is used to galvanizing iron pipe, thus preventing contact of iron with air and water that contains dissolved air. Brass is an alloy ...
What does the margin of error tell us about a sample taken from a large population? How does the confidence level for a sample outcome differ from the sample’s margin of error?
The margin of error is a numerical value that expresses or estimates the likelihood of error in an experiment’s results. Thus, it can somehow account for the statistical significance of a result. If it is smaller, then the likelihood of error is also small, making the results more credible. Smaller sample sizes from a large population generally have a larger margin of error while larger ...
Reading is one of the four language skills. It is taught mostly during the first years of studying at school and is considered to be one of the basic skills each person should possess. It seems impossible to imagine a modern well-educated person who is not able to read or displays poor reading proficiency. However, some children face various reading disabilities. The resolution of this problem is special reading programs intended to increase reading proficiency which turned out to be quite effective. The results of the study show that the elementary school students who use reading proficiency in class ...
When power is granted to an individual to exert over another, interesting things can happen. The balance of authority is often tenuous and can be navigated if the semblance of order is respected and followed. When that order is ignored and the authority is placed in the hands of those who seek to use it for personal gain however, the balance is quickly lost. The Stanford Prison Experiment shows how absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Seeking to display the very real situations that occur between prison guards and convicts, a study was conducted at Stanford University in 1971 to test ...
The article Empowering Frontline Nurses: A Structured Intervention Enables Nurses to Improve Medication Administration Accuracy mainly focuses on the precautionary safety measures that should be adhered to when providing patients with the medications. The primary area of interest was to improve the accuracy with which drug is administered to patients through the development and deployment of process improvement skills and nurse leadership in a surgical inpatient unit. Medical errors have always taken a toll on the quality of services that patients receive in most hospitals. Such errors have long been documented in the form of surveys and studies. The ...
According to Introduction to The Scientific Method (n.d), scientific methods refers to a process whereby scientists provide the world’s representation in a reliable and consistent way collectively, over some period of time. It involves asking questions scientifically and performing experiments after making several observations.
There are several steps involved in the scientific methods. They include initial objectives after making observations, constructing a workable hypothesis, recording the collected data, testing the hypothesis by performing an experiment, analyzing and summarizing results, drawing discussions and conclusions and communicating results (Spellman & Price-Bayer, 2012, p. 230).
Observation is where the chosen problem is ...

Weaning refers to the gradual replacement of breastfeeding with other foods as well as different methods of nurturing. The weaning process is said to begin the minute the baby takes food from a source other than breast milk. This can be in the form of mashed bananas or formula from a bottle. From a medical point of view, it is important for babies to receive breast milk. It is recommended that for ideal and adequate nutrition, a child needs to be exclusively breastfed for the first six months. Medics also insist that nursing of a baby ...
I have chosen to analyze the scenario about Sensation and Perception, ‘Want to stand out in a crowd? Wear red!” The scenario mainly talked about how a research study proved that the color red is really perceived faster by humans.

The first error that I spotted in the reading is the definition of the Trichromatic Theory. According to the reading, the Trichromatic Theory proposes that our eyes are sensitive to three colors: red, green, and yellow. However, this is incorrect. In page 143 of the textbook, Trichromatic Theory states that we base our color vision on three primary colors – ...
Fingerprint analysis is the oldest and common form of forensic evidence and unique of each individual. There are two types of finger prints –patent and latent. Patent fingerprints are easily visible to the naked eye and are caused by inks, blood, oil or paint ("A Simplified Guide To Fingerprint Analysis", 2017). Latent ones are not visible to the naked eye and are caused by skin secretions like oil and sweat (Daluz, n.d.). There are various ways of experimenting the latent fingerprints depending on the surface, material, temperature and chemicals. Here we will study the effect of different temperatures (hot ...

The Rosenhan experiment used in the establishing the validity of psychiatric diagnosis conducted in 1972 by David Rosenhan, titled “On being sane in insane places” consisted of two main parts. The area second part of the experiment, where the staff in the psychiatric hospitals falsely detected a large number of genuine patients as impostors is not a justification as to why the sane people cannot be distinguished from the insane in psychiatric hospitals (Fontaine 348-365). It is this is because in the experiment, the inability of the nurses to identify the imposters cannot be a generalized aspect, their inability ...

I am looking into an article that goes by the title: Self-driving Cars Meet Rubber Duckies. This article was published in April 20, 2016, by Adam Conner-Simons. This article got published in the MIT news (Conner-Simons, 2016). I found the article on the internet as I was making a research on the fast modification of cars over the years. I picked this article because it touches on an area that I am so passionate about. It is everyone’s dream to own a self-driving car at one time or the other. According to Conner-Simons ( ...
Pragmatic skills are important in day to day lives of individuals as they are one of the ways that determine how individuals interact with others. Also, they are what determines how individuals communicate their ideas, personal thoughts, and feelings (Stanton-Chapman, Jamison and Denning 226). The skills include what people say to others, how they say those things, their body language among other things. Those who have poor pragmatic skills may find it difficult to interpret the intention of other people's communication correctly hence resulting to them having a hard time responding either verbally or non-verbally. As a result of ...
Definition of a Controversial Punishment
The use of aromatic ammonia is one of the controversial punishment procedures that have been used to deal with aversive behaviors. This controversial treatment procedure was administered by a change agent when it was indicated, usually whenever the aversive behavior was noted by the change agent. The procedure involved opening a capsule containing the aromatic ammonia. The capsule was then waved under the nose of the individual with the problem behavior (Miltenberger, 2011).
The rationale for the use of this controversial punishment procedure is that the individual with the problem behavior would learn to associate the pungent choking smell ...

In the year 2015, Wang, Doleschel, Wunderlich, and Heinen published a paper in the Journal of Medical Systems [1]. The paper was on a wearable wireless ECG system that was based on the novel 3-Lead electrode placements. After carrying out an experiment for the 3-Lead electrode placements, it was discovered that the distance between the electrodes could further be reduced for efficiency. A smaller sized sensor node being powered by a rechargeable battery would then be developed based on the newly identified electrode positions. A dynamic method of controlling power is also automatically installed in the sensor node for ...
Dweck conducted several studies to find how different types of praise influence children of school age. Dweck used experimental method to conduct the serial of studies of the effect of different types of praise. The author tried to find how praise for intelligence and praise for efforts (independent variables) influence children`s reactions to failure, their goals in a working on a task (dependent variables), etc. (Bronson, 2007).
In the first study, participants of the experiment were randomly divided into several groups. The one group of children was praised for their hard work while children from second experimental group ...

The conversion of gas into liquid fuels is an innovative technology that is well-known to many people. This technique is so promising and enhancing new options for environmentally friendly manufacturing of fuels and chemicals as well as other natural gases. Looking into the large natural gas and coal reserves and deteriorating petroleum reserves all over the world, it is anticipated to play an important role in the future. Cobalt-based chemical agents are the ideal catalysts for hydrogen synthesis since they have a high FTS functionality, discernment for long-chain paraffin as well as a low process for the water-gas change ...
Investigation of Solar cells
Introduction
Solar cells, also known as photovoltaic cells, rely on the photoelectric effect to convert the solar radiation into electric energy. Photoelectric effect refers to the tendency of materials to emit electrons when light is shown on them. The electrons dislodged from the surface of an object as a result of light being shown on the surface of such materials are referred to as photoelectrons. Not all materials exhibit the ability to emit electrons when placed along the path of light. Most with the ability to emit electrons are metals.
Silicon is a key ingredient of a solar cell. ...

The character I chose for a reflective journal is John B. Watson. He is a representative of behaviorism and one of the most important persons in American psychology. It is essential to note that his views prevailed in American psychology for 50 years, and nowadays his ideas in altered form are still important. However, I am impressed by his points of view, behavioral, and radical experiments with a child.
John B. Watson launched the behaviorist movement, rejected the philosophy of the past, the method of introspection, and mentioned that mental events were beyond the pale of scientific psychology. Unfortunately, ...

This experiment is conducted in order to determine the value of the density of copper. This is achieved by using one of the three pieces of equipment. The three equipment available, from which one is to be selected, are the pipette, the beaker, and the graduated cylinder. The equipment is selected on the basis of accuracy and precision of results from three trials with these apparatuses. The pipette was found to be accurate and precise enough to be used in this experiment. The results are tabulated in the results section according to the apparatus and the second table is ...
Why aren't detectives more successful at solving crimes? Given their relative lack of success, how do you account for the "detective mystique"? In this essay, share some solutions to make solving crimes more effective.
One of the major reasons why some detectives have difficulties in solving crime is because they lack the necessary skill, particularly the intellectual capacity to perform their job. One of the major challenges of law enforcement agents in solving crimes is the cleverness and cunning of criminals. Although there are many theories and procedures that aims to aid detectives in solving crimes, the successful ...

The equipment used to assess VO2 max and lactate threshold includes the h/p/cosmos Pulsar 5.0 treadmill, the Cosmed Quark PFT Ergo testing equipment, the Cosmed V2 mask, the HR Belt Cosmed-ANT (w/transmitter), and a computer.
Calibration Processes
The preliminary step for the experiment is to perform the calibration of the equipment. The treadmill velocity should be calibrated by marking a point and noting the time it takes to complete a predetermined number of revolutions. This time is used to calculate the velocity by using the length of the belt, which should also be measured. These calibrations should be performed at different ...

The Scientific method is a framework followed by scientist in investigating a certain inquiry or process. Scientific method is a series of steps that was established during 1619 by Rene Descartes. This then led to the improvement of the principle so as being used until the recent times as a principle that guides every scientific fields (McLelland, n.d.). With scientific method, biases from personal prerogatives and the influence of environmental and social concerns are eradicated. The scientific method employs the utilization of testing procedures to verify claims that can be reproduced to strengthen the credibility. Scientific method is a ...
While Beck argues that depression results from negative thinking styles that results to how people view their environment, Psychologists Martin Seligman and his colleagues postulated the concept of Learned Helplessness. The main key to how the group discovered this theory is by researching on the linkage between fear and learning in dogs. The research of Seligman made use of Classical Conditioning as it involved observing what happens when a dogs was set free from its enclosure upon hearing a sound. The remarkable results of the experiment suggest that the conditioned dog learned more than link between the tone and ...
Observation is the act of learning about and investigating a specific area of interest. When we make observations, we notice phenomena that we can readily explain, as well as phenomena that defy explanation. When we observe something that we can’t explain and that we wish to understand, or when we have a theory about the conditional behavior of the system or object we are observing, we are led to ask a question that we can answer by conducting purposeful research.
The research question should make the goal and the course of the research clear. It should not be ...
In research conducted by Rauscher, Shaw, and Ky (1993), the result of listening to music composed by the musician Mozart was an short-term improvement in tasks associated with spatial-temporal reasoning. The researchers hypothesized that higher brain functions correlate with music cognition. Dubbed the “Mozart Effect” by Dr. Alfred Tomatis, subsequent experiments differed on whether the influence is significant. While some studies support the proposed impact (Ivanov & Geake, 2003; Rauscher, Robinson, and Jens, 1998; Rideout & Laubach, 1996), others do not (Chabris, 1999; Mehr, Schachner, Katz, & Spelke, 2013; Steele, Bass, & Crook, 1999). This paper is an analysis of the research by ...

The current study examined how much people think and what emotional experience they have about their behavior when they perform habitual actions or actions, behaviors which are not habitual for them. As it was supposed, results of the study demonstrated that when a person performs habitual actions one`s thoughts are less likely to correspond to one`s actions. On the contrary, when a person performs some novelty actions in less stable or variable context this person is more likely to think about one`s actions or, in other words, thoughts and actions correspond to each other.

Color and texture are important attributes related to vegetable quality. The objective of this study was to determine the changes in quality characteristics, caused by cooking time, and pH (alkali and acid addition) in some vegetables. Four different vegetables — carrots, spinach, red cabbage and cauliflower — were analyzed for changes in color and texture associated to time of boiling, the effect of alkali (baking soda), and the effect of acid (vinegar and cream of tartar). Samples of each vegetable were prepared and treated for five minutes. Color change was measured visually and using the L*a*b* technique. Color and ...

Moving to Opportunity (MTO) experiment aimed at revealing if moving households to the areas with lower poverty rates will affect the future of children (Chetty, Hendren, and Katz 855). In order to generate the results, the researchers set a longitudinal experiment that involved 4,604 low-income families from several U.S. cities including Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. The criteria for inclusion into the experiment were low income, availability of children, and residing in the public housing. The families were moved from 1994 to 1998 while a follow-up was conducted in 2012. The families were divided into ...
In this experiment, the independent variable was the social explicit exclusion (which arises as a result of actions of other people) and social implicit exclusion (which arises as a result of an individual`s inability to participate in a common activity with other people). Activity in anterior cingulate cortex (which is associated with the experience of pain distress) and activity in the right ventral prefrontal cortex (which helps to decrease distress) were two dependent variables.

A Dog’s Heart
Therefore, the novel ‘The Heart of a Dog’ has a very clear idea of the author. Briefly, it can be formulated as: accomplished in Russia the revolution was not the result of the natural socio-economic development of society and just an irresponsible and premature experiment. Hence, it is necessary to return the country, if possible, to its former state. Thus, the experiment of the Professor was completely artificial. Professors were interested only in the question of whether it is possible to engraft a human pituitary gland in the dog and make it rejuvenation. ...

The true nature of classical conditioning lies in the responding with some action for some stimulus caused by artificial cause. The earliest researches of classical conditioning were conducted by Russian scientists Pavlov, who proved that if we ring the bell every time before we feed the dog, it associate the bell with the process of feeding, so in some period of such a repeated action the dog starts drooling as the same stimulus make him think that he is going to be fed now (Schmajuk, 2008). So in simple words, the classical conditioning is about attaching one stimulus from ...

Permeability also known as hydraulic conductivity is the ability of the soil to allow the water to pass through it with ease. The characteristic property of soil is useful in calculation of the seepage in the dams and under sheet pile walls. It also helps in determining the rate of seepage through the facilities for storing waste water such as landfills and fish ponds. Moreover, the rate of settlement of clayey soils can also be established. The determination of hydraulic conductivity of soils can be performed using several methods. The method of constant head is used to determine the ...

I conducted this study to explore the play of inter-ethnic and social ties and their impact on market-associated relationships. For the experiment, I chose a Starbucks coffee shop in an ethnically diverse area. This outlet is also popular with a diverse pool of out-of-town visitors. My experiment would involve studying ongoing interactions by listening to conversations between the order manager and his customers.
The experiment did not specifically concentrate on a racial or ethnographic perspective. Rather, it followed a more general view of whoever customers were around to interact with the manager during service. The experience meant that I ...

Cocaine use disorder (CUD) is considered to be a health problem because of the millions of people who are using it worldwide. The article states that excessive cocaine use will cause changes in the prefrontal Cortes (PFC) (Terraneo, p.37). The reason for this is because PFC plays a significant role in the addictive cycle such as the inhibitory control, reinforcement learning as well as cravings. Many types of research that have been conducted show that the loss of inhibitory control is brought on by drug behaviors. The article looks at the animal studies that have been carried out in ...
Some actions, despite their initial good intentions, are hampered by its oftentimes poor executions. Although Victor Frankenstein expressed that his initial reason to cheat the cycle of life and death is to create a better world, his past and state of mind is actually mired with selfish intentions. Curiosity is something inherent in every human being, but there is a line that must never be crossed even by the most insatiable thirst for knowledge. There is a fine line that separates science and knowledge from madness and insanity, regardless of the age and reason.

The neural network controls physical activities. Recently scientists have found out that the neural network can be observed to show different levels of activation depending on an organism’s mental activity. Scientists have gone further to devise actual methods that detect brain activity in particular instances. The brain and the neural network never stop working; however, certain tasks cause the brain and the neural network to work faster, harder and more intensely (Garcia). These unique activities usually register or appear as spikes or dips in the never-ending sequence of brain activity. Genetically Encoded Voltage Indicators (GEVIs) are a promising ...

After reviewing the case study, it is possible to claim that there are several inconsistencies with the claims made in the scenario. First of all, the study creates a vivid claim in the title that does not correlate with the study conducted by the researcher. The entire case uses a false attraction for the readers in order to impose its agenda. The title suggests wearing red in order to be noticed in the crowd, but the study evaluates only the de-saturated colors of a narrow range in terms of saliency. Secondly, the study does not provide any hypothesis or ...

The following summary discusses the cooling techniques of atomic vapor in several different ways. Additionally, it tends to relate the evolution of experiments that are used in studying shallow layered fluids. Starting with the atomic condensates, the method is known as trapping. However, it exists in many ways from the laser system to the Bose-Einstein methods. The methods of cooling are different due to the evolutionary progress made by science. The use of laser beams includes the study of light forces on atoms which lead to either an absorption or emission of a photon. While the contraction of matter ...

This experiment attempts to explain Piaget’s theory of cognitive development through contesting his method .It is significant that we first comprehend Piaget’s cognitive development theory.
Piaget’s approach to child development gives a totally different explanation of child development. For instance Piaget’s believe that development is a structural, systematic process. According to him, it is not only the amount of knowledge that differentiates the young child from the older intellectual or cognitive development; it becomes more capable of carrying out actions upon its environment as the child’s intellect develops which ensures its survival.
Piaget thinks that ...
