Recently, I have been to the concert of great American pianist Leon Fleisher with an orchestra at the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center. I do not remember the name of the conductor; however, I perfectly remembered the name of the pianist.
Apparently it is becoming a good tradition that Leon Fleisher performs with best orchestras of our time, since the music they played was just a miracle. Stevie Wonder's 1972 performance of Superstition is a classic illustration of “ABAB” song form. The “A” phrases are notated by an “aabb” rhyming pattern, while the “B” section, contains the same words each time it is sung and does not have a discernible rhyming pattern. The first work on the programme was Franz Josef Haydn’s Symphony Nr 13 which is not usually often on concert programmes. The orchestra was delightful in its inflexions and its arrangement by Thomas Laloie was particularly ravishing with the players contributing to an excellent performance all round.
Next on the programme was another rare work, William Hofeldt’s ‘Lullaby’ which was composed in 1951. Yet again we had the orchestra players particularly the ...
