I agree with what the author is putting across. He is emphasizing on keeping check of the profession which is a commendable idea. Also he is depicting the architecture work to be very hard unless one has attended a school to learn about it. Sacred places and sacred forces must be treated with the utmost respect that they deserve. Many are the times that people fail and forget the uses of the religions and sacred places. The sacred places are constructed in a ...

ABSTRACT
Euthyphro is not really able to answer any of the questions Socrates asks about piety and holiness, since he is looking for a universal answer about the meaning of these terms. Socrates probably does not believe in the traditional gods of Athens but rather in a monotheistic God with a universal concept of truth, justice and morality. Indeed, he is about to go on trial for impiety and instructing the youth of Athens to question the existence of the gods, and will be sentenced to death. In comparison, Euthyphro has very rigid and limited ideas about holiness, which generally involve obeying laws, ...
Who were the major "players" in monastery economies (think of Vezelay, for example). What did they have to gain- or lose- based on their roles in this economy? How did the cult of saints fit into this monastery economy? What visual and textual evidence do we have?
The legalization of Christianity undoubtedly gave rise to a number of monastic orders who flourished extensively over Europe with the establishment of several monastery economies. The Dominicans and the Benedictines were among the most successful especially the latter who took to copying sacred texts and commissioning works of art with considerable zeal.

Felicite adores her pet parrot Loulou very much while it is alive, and gets it stuffed after it dies. Through Loulou, Flaubert seems to be mocking all parrotry, and he makes the parrot mindlessly repeat all sorts of clichés. In fact, the parrot’s own name comprises the repetition of the word “Lou.” There is a scene in the book when visitors to at the house are admiring ...

For Muslims, the Koran is the word of Allah or God, as passed on to humanity through revelations made to Prophet Muhammad. Moderate Muslims and Islamic scholars have maintained that Islam is a religion of peace. Considering that Islam has the second largest following and is the fastest growing religion in the world, it is necessary to understand the concept and relevance of peace and war in the context of the Holy Quran. Islam, the religion itself, is the submission of oneself to the will of Almighty God. The Quran says: “Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find ...
Goldsworthy as a Scots artist is able to find order between chaos of the world and bridges in his work. One way of bridging individuals is through bringing together their differences and making them orderly. Humanity is bridged by fusing different cultures and making the world less chaotic. When there is harmonious living people are able to bridge east west and nature as is the case in Goldsworthy’s film. Das work exemplifies the aesthetic fusion and vision in his work as well as practice. Bridging is an art that metaphorically symbolizes a step taken to unite and bring order in ...
People expect Christians to live morally acceptable lives and rightly so. Christianity teaches virtue like honesty, sexual purity, and kindness. Statements such as "What would Jesus do?" are used a lot especially in television shows for comic effect. At times these statements feel provocative role in his or her Christhood. However, looking deeply into such remarks makes a Christians take a little offense to what is said to them. For instance, Jesus would never be adulterous. Jesus would also never steal nor covet another man's property. Doing what Jesus would do is not so offensive. Therefore, Christian worldview recommends ...

The supremacy of God in preaching is one of the many books by John Piper and just like all of his other books; the central focus of the book is about the glory of God. It advocates the common saying that Piper, who has served as a pastor at Bethlehem Baptist church for thirty-three years makes in all his preaching and writing that God is most glorified when people are most satisfied in him. Throughout the book, Piper makes the clarion call that preachers should make the glory of God the central pillar in their preaching rather than focusing ...
Comments on Two Essays
Comment on Essay #1
The comment that myths are ‘a collection of stories to explain history pretty much’ is an accurate evaluation of myths. It is correct that myths are not necessarily true. However, what the essay does not point out is that myths are often metaphors that are indicative of the history of a people. Behind the seemingly implausible myth might lie the true story of a people. For instance, the Indian myth about how mammoth attacks on Indians ceased (Schlosser) indicates the geographic origins of the Indian peoples. It is necessary to read within the text of ...

Discuss this statement in relation to two areas of knowledge.
Two areas of knowledge discussed in this essay relate to religion and ethics. However, a sound definition of concepts must be advanced before profound discussions on the subjects religion and ethics are embraced. Religion was considered the opium of the people by the Philosopher Karl Marx (1818 – 1883). Marx perceived the facts embodied in religion as well as rituals and beliefs to be nothing more than systems used to subjugate people. Precisely, it was exploitation of man by man, the powerful exploiting the powerless; rich by poor; owners of the means of production by those who work for them (Bulbulia. ...
Foundational to the Christian faith is the belief that mankind is created in the image of God. Explain how this belief affects the way you interact with people within your chosen vocation?
We are all made in the image of God, this is because during the creation of the first man, he said let us create man in our own image. This means that in each and every individual looks like God regardless of his physical appearance, race and even gender. Being all created in God’s image only means that all are equal and the same and ...

Works of art can communicate critical information on the times in which they were created. Different time periods and different cultural backgrounds provide the stylistic and media elements of a work of art. There may be no specific intent to portray the times, but that is what happens when the artist creates a work of art in a particular artistic period. Examples of art works from two distinctly different times and cultures will demonstrate how the art in the Medieval period of European history and Pop Art from the late mid-20th century differ.

Chapter 7: Civil Religion
Majority of people associate the word “religion” with major organized faiths that people have practiced for centuries. Traditional religions typically involve rituals, sacred texts, holidays, intimate beliefs held and practiced by a congregation. However, humans practice another form of religion, often unconsciously, which sociologists call civil religion. According to Johnstone (122), civil religion refers to secular forms of belief and ritual similar to those practiced in religion, such as political ceremonies. In social scientific context, the society matches cultural institutions with some kinds of social groups. For example, religion is a social embodiment in associations such as churches, the ceremonies in ...
Any study focusing on religion should begin with a definition of the concept. However, the term religion assumes different meaning depending on perspective of people. In his book, Religion in society: A sociology of religion, Johnstone Ronald takes a sociological perspective in defining religion. The author defines religion as “a system of beliefs and practices by which a group of people interprets and responds to what they feel as sacred and, usually supernatural as well” (Johnstone 13). Johnstone derives the meaning of religion from the Latin word ‘Religare’ meaning, ‘to bind together,’ pointing to the concept of fellowship or a group (7). The definition ...

For all outsiders who watch with horror the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, it would really be hard to understand why so many killings happen for a small strip of land. All the targeted killings, separation barriers and military attacks by Israel are given a single justification – Self defense. So is this the reality? Islam and Judaism
These two religions are some of the oldest religions existing today. They have many similarities in terms of philosophy and practices. Interestingly, they also vary on the same basis. The major similarities are the belief in one God, the adherence to a holy text, the reverence to teachings of their fore leader and regard of the teachings as law. On the other hand, they vary in the manner of spreading the teachings, how converts are treated, and generally on the content of their teachings (Neusner, 1992).

In the contexts of the three highlighted articles, they all focus on the various societal norms that should be followed by the individuals and the general relationship with the divine creature who is god. Robert c. Mortimer’s article on “the divine command theory and relativism” and “morality is based on god's commands” highlights the individual moral ethics in relation to god divine interventions to the matter. “A defense of ethical relativism” by Ruth Benedict argues that morality is ultimately tied up to the socially approved customs.
