Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of the United States. The Jacksonian democracy is the period in which Andrew Jackson ruled. This was in the early 1800’s. His upcoming was historical he was the first president to come from a different area than the rest of the presidents.
There were a lot changes politically, socially and economically during his tenure. On one basis of political democracy it was change of voting qualifications. Earlier it was required for one to be a property owner to vote this changed and all the ownership rules were disqualified. In the south however the elite didn’t trust mass democracy and property ownership took a bit longer to be abolished than the rest of the places.
This trend of voting for all white citizens took place all over except Rhode Island. Rhode Island is where all industries were based. Later there was a convection and all white people were allowed to vote except black people. Thus in the end of it all politically a lot of citizens were fully involved in voting, though socially the black people were openly discriminated against.
Democracy was a new concept in America and a writer by the name Tocqueville visited and wrote a book “Democracy in America”. In his book he said democracy was more than just voting and political involvement.
On the social front women and black people were not favored by democracy. Though the new concept gave women a place to share what they felt through writing. Jackson also saw the Indians exit from America.
Economically he fought against the strongest bank that wanted to control all the finances of America. He was the first one to use Veto and allowed use of soft and hard currency. The British demanded to be paid in hard currency, though this led into financial depression causing business to go down.
The Jacksonian democratic period was the era of change for America. Socially, economically and political all the changes brought both negative and positive effects.
