Since my middle school years, history and art have always fascinated my academic imaginations and I have henceforth continually excelled in them. I have at certain points in my academic career even won academic awards and honors in these two subjects. I mainly attribute this success to a variety of factors such as my interest, experiences, academics and social background.
Moreover, my social background in terms of the type of friends I used to keep and still do keep has played a significant role in my excellence or success in history as a subject. These friends from diverse cultural and historical backgrounds and different parts of the globe have shaped in a special way my penchant for history and related values. For instance, my best friend since middle school, Omayra, is a Puerto Rican whose parents are all Chinese but usually celebrates the Chinese New Year Traditions and beliefs. This has inspired me to study more about this culture in its historical context. Also, I have friends from other parts of the world such as Cuba, Russia, Mexico and Bangladesh whose historical cultures, art, beliefs and languages inspire me a lot. Additionally, my decision to study languages has inspired my fascination for different languages, art, history and cultures.
On the other hand, as to arts, I believe it is my association with creative people since I was a young girl that has inspired my success in arts. Of particular importance is a drawing, art and craft class that my parents took me to when I was five years old that must have started off my imagination and passion for arts. During these art lessons, I learn and practiced drawing my favorite cartoons on my own. Further, the art tutorials and my love for Japanese comics and anime have all assisted me to improve greatly on my drawing styles and seen me advance up to my current art class. Besides family, I also attribute my success in arts to friends who not only supported me, but also encouraged and inspired me, having discovered my interest in arts subject. This is because, as Pablo Picasso states in his quote “Pain ting is just another way of keeping a day”, it is people around one that inspires them to express their feelings, interests and talents by simply looking at one’s art piece and seeing the artistry in them. This has served to inspire and motivate the creativity in me too.
In conclusion, I believe you will find my academic interest and experiences as discussed in this essay to be in line or consonance with your institution’s goals and missions with regards to students’ learning expectations and ambitions. I am looking forward to starting college, meeting and making friends from different cultures and advancing my enthusiasm for history and arts.
