CLASSIC ENGLISH LITERATURE
One of the most essential aspects that each and every author should note include the fact that he should establish a platform and an avenue through which he will communicate with his audience, who in this case, include the readers that will read his work. Henrik Isben, for example is one of the most consistent writers and authors that use different strategies and avenues to communicate with their readers, and this is one of the aspects that made his work, A Doll’s House, stand out as one of his most successful pieces. One of the ways through which H. Isben achieves this in his projects is using the heat-of-the-moment strategy in his writing. In this article, for example, considering the fact that the article was written in Rome in the year 1879, during a time when there were many European revolutions and wars, such as the famous 1848 European revolution that highly affected Rome. The book A Doll’s House, therefore, came at a convenient time, in addressing the issue as it took place, as well as reporting on the same. For instance, he manages to introduce a romantic drift into the book, in a book setting marred with lots of political settings.
One of the things that the author has focused on in this article and that makes his work stand out include the life-reality angle from which he has approached his book. For example, by explaining the day to day hardships that people go through in their lives, he has managed to bring the book setting to a level that the audience will not only relate to, but also understand. For instance, Nora, the main character in the book, ends up finding out that her husband is a person entirely different from what she thought he was, prior to their marriage (Isben, 2007). This is one thing that many people can easily relate to, and that also applies in our day to day lives today. H. Isben has, therefore, managed to effectively express the same to the audience, making it easy for the audience to not only understand the book, but also relate to it.
One thing that should be noted in this excellent book, however, is the fact that there has been a consistent change of scenes, especially due to the fact that there was too much to cover, within a minimal and limited field of literature. In this case, therefore, the reader has to hastily move from one scene to the next, making most of these scenes appear scantily explained, and lack effective details. This is one of the weaknesses through which the book is likely to lose its audience, consequently, leading to disinterest, especially for readers who fancy and prefer details. However, the book has been successful in passing its message, especially, considering the fact that it has effectively incorporated politics and socio-cultural lives together.
