I always visualize myself as an accomplished fire investigator. That is why I would do everything within my powers to get there no matter the challenges. It is a career that I have always wanted to be in as long as I can remember. Thinking about being in the fire service is a long term commitment and measuring up to fit into this career has its challenges and I believe I have a master plan to see me achieve my dreams one day.
I intend to reach my goal someday and so I have laid down strategies and goals which need to be accomplished. Napoleon Hill, in his book Think and Grow Rich says that “the starting point of all achievement is desire” (Hill 2004). I desire to be an accomplished fire investigator, that is my goal in life and I have identified it. So then I will live every day of my life seeing myself as one and that in ten years I will be one. Secondly, every day of my life I visualize myself achieving this and therefore I have not given failure any room. Lee Iacocca said that "The greatest discovery of my generation is that human beings can alter their lives by altering their attitudes of mind". I keep a picture of myself in my mind, the picture is a respectable man in a career many opt not to partake.
In my career development I envision myself working with four major elements of professionalism that will help me work well with others. To begin with, I will uphold integrity. I will always remain true to my word and honestly help my colleagues while on duty in order to achieve our goals. Secondly, I will be courteous to everyone, be open and positive to all persons. I will also have to be ready to work and serve at all times because my career is basically centered on emergency service. Lastly, I will be punctual, go to work early, work efficiently and finish my duties on time. These are the four pillars that can see one achieve their goals in any work setting (Graner 2006).
