Response Essay about the Film Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012)
Apparently the film entitled “The Southern Wild” by Benh Zeitlin is a highly rated film owing the fact that the themes in this film and the implications of the same are made apparent throughout the film. In essence the director of this film incorporated ideas and themes in such a way that can be easily understood by many (Millard 164). At the outset of this film, we are introduced to an isolated community, where people have to struggle with hardships and challenges as a way of fulfilling their daily needs. Upon watching this movie, I could apparently commemorate the various environmental hazards that left human beings isolated and filled with sorrow. This film evokes a feeling where you feel pitiful for those who experience environmental calamities.
In addition to the above, this film makes apparent the relationships between daughter and father. Hushpuppy and wink have a good relationship in the film, though they have differing perceptions regarding matters life; their relationship develops well in the film irrespective of the fact that Wink the father is an alcoholic. In the same note, this film clearly establishes the true nature of bravery and persistence. Though Hushpuppy the six-year-old girl experiences hardships, she shows persistence and bravery when dealing with issues. In most instances she behaves comfortably irrespective of the situation, even after being affected by Katrina, and living alone with her father she acts a happy person. Hushpuppy also establishes the fact that children have perceptions that are in essence different form the reality. Hushpuppy perceives animals as though they communicate to her. In other instances, she hides inside a cardboard to avoid being burned by fire. In a nutshell, though this movie is a fantasy, the directness and authenticity of it makes it convincing and exemplary (Millard 164).
