4. Whether or not we believe that the Church authorities who chose what books and letters would become part of the New Testament were correct in their choices, what does the presence of these other Gospels and writings tell us about early Christian interpretations about Jesus and his message?
Answer. The Gospels of Philip and Thomas are the Gnostic versions of the New Testament’s text and they discriminate themselves from the orthodox views of early Christian doctrines which believed that Jesus had strong feelings for Mary Magdalene and he even kissed her. The presence of Gospels of Thomas and Philip put stress on the beliefs of the Gnostic society which show the knowledge gaps (regarding Christ) in the beliefs of the widely accepted canons of the Bible written by the earlier Christian scholars.
