There are two sides to the argument regarding the legalization of marijuana: the first proposes that marijuana is a drug hence it should not even be considered for legalization, neither for recreational purposes nor for medical use. The other side proposes that the drug is a proven success for its medical benefits and it should be given a try. Like every other experimental gadget and technology that has the potential to affect human life in any way, I hold the opinion that marijuana should be legalized for its medical benefits. This stance is not prompted by popular opinion or any influence rather it stems from the possibilities that the drug can offer since marijuana is different from others.
Getting to the facts, marijuana is not an addictive drug, and no one has ever died from a marijuana overdose. When the drug is used in its medicinal form, it is extracted in the form of oil which is named cannabis oil. Medically, the properties of the drug induce the suppressing and relaxing effects however cannabis oil is known to have treated nausea and vomiting and the aftereffects of chemotherapy in cancer patients. The famous article regarding the woman who cured her cancer with cannabis oil is proof of the healing properties of marijuana. It has also known to help patients with Parkinson’s to calm their muscle spasms. More people have died from smoking and substance abuse whereas no one has died from overdosing on marijuana. Hence allowing the medical use of marijuana to treat various ailments is actually beneficial for mankind and the progress should not be halted.
