God is the creator of the universe and the diverse world that we live in. He created humans to occupy and multiply and fill the earth, hence we are to be the stewards of creation. He called us the human beings to work as co-creators with Him. Business has a role in the creation of God. Business provides the community with goods and services that it needs to flourish as well as opportunities to the human beings to express their creativity given by God. The primary role is not to earn profit, protect the environment or foster amicable relationship between communities although all of these are still important.
Profits are not the primary role for businesses that we conduct but the customers and the employees become the ends of the business. It is intended to gather more capital to accommodate more employees and serve many customers. It also enables a business to adopt innovation and creativity in operations and thrive well despite the existence of philanthropic giving such as taxes.
Annihilation is described as the destruction of something completely so that nothing is left. When God banished man from the Garden of Eden to work on the earth that he was given, other series of events followed to show that man was falling. The child labor in China, the dumping in India, racism at Texaco, Nicaragua Sweatshops, Joe Camel advertising, Enron convictions and collapse and the Ford Pinto crashes as described in the book are all evidences of fall. All these issues led to unsafe working conditions for humans, corruption relationships, ignorance of employee leaves, and damage to the environment, adverts aimed at kids, lack of livable wages and a growing disparity of income. Jeff Van Duzer maintained that when a business is comprehended as a global community service, it will actually preserve its intrinsic value. Business was created for the purpose of creating and restoring the hurting world.
Agnostic is a term used in business practices to refer to something that is generalized so that it is interoperable among various processes. It entails complying with the widely-accepted standards that will enable the business thrive well in a variety of environments. A market economy which reflects God’s concession to the fall is hence needed. It should assume self-interest, scarcity and values what an individual can deliver. There is no central coordination or planning is necessary. Recalling that businesses exist to serve man, then market economy should deploy resources to aid in the flourishment of the community and provide a creative and meaningful piece of work.
Adoption is the process that consumers go through to decide whether to be loyal customers of a new product or reject it to look for something else. The customer moves from a cognitive state of awareness to an emotional state of preference and finally to the conative state of making decision to purchase the product. Here, making money for missionary support and family is allowed and employees should not be favored over the stakeholders. A reasonable rate of return should be entitled to the business shareholders. The business operations should be conducted in a sustainable manner that takes care of the employees, investors, customers, suppliers as well as the surrounding communities and the environment.
Ignoring this will render the business liable to earning unreasonable returns. It won’t be able to pay livable wages, avoid environmental harm, avoid consumerist advertising, to pay sufficient prices to its suppliers and offer jobs. Implementing such market economy, there are some borderline situations that should be adhered to. One should not conclude that there is no way out, should practice praying in a moment of decision and finally be in a position to build and maintain long-term habits. Other recommendations include fasting while praying, keeping the Sabbath, meditating Scriptures, living simply, practicing generosity and hospitality, receiving the Eucharist and finally participating in regular corporate worship.
