A-Level Essay On Standing Up For One’s Self For Free Use

The only decision I have truly regretted in my life up til now is not standing up for myself even when I was being treated poorly by someone I considered family for eight years since we first met in middle school because I did not want to lose their friendship. For years, I allowed my so-called best friend who swore we were practically sisters to throw me aside and treat me like trash every time she met a new person regardless if they were a significant other or a friend. Weeks would go by where I would not here from her at all before she would come crying to me and acting like I would console her making me feel even more like a doormat for if I had tried to confide in her she would only want to talk about her needs making me feel as if I was in a one-sided relationship that I was contributing to more than her.
The worst part about this messed up friendship was that I felt more like her mother than her best friend and grew so upset about the whole situation I became depressed which affected not only myself but the rest of my family as well as I tended to walk around the house in a miserable state. In the end, I decided to end my friendship with her to save my own sanity and have strived to never make the same mistake again while at the same time I have tried to not blame myself for the whole thing. Interestingly enough, I did wonder at first if I was making a mistake when I told her I no longer wanted to be friends but ever since that hard choice I have felt healthier both physically and mentally. Thus while I made a mistake in keeping this abusive person by my side, I have learned from it and have come out even stronger than before.
