Writing an essay in APA format is not as complicated as many people think. Beginning with the title page for an APA format essay, it is imperative to include the title of the work in both the header with the label “Running Head”, the page number, the title in the center, the student’s name, and the name of the school, (Paiz, Joshua, 2016). It is important to assemble the running head at the top of the title page in the upper left corner of the header feature, (Paiz, Joshua, 2016). What is important to set for the settings is that your header will be different from the title page to the rest of your essay, (Paiz, Joshua, 2016). Thus, the rest of the headers of your essay after the title will be having only the title in the upper left corner and the page number in the upper right corner, (Paiz, Joshua, 2016). Essentially, the only difference is that you need to eliminate the running head that you used previously for the title page, (Paiz, Joshua, 2016).
Pertaining to in text citations, it is imperative to include the author’s name and the year, (Paiz, Joshua, 2016). When you are creating the “Words Cited” section from an MLA paper, it is also important to change the title of that section to “References” for the APA style formatting guidelines, (Paiz, Joshua, 2016). When your APA paper requires an abstract, the APA guidelines dictate that your abstract should not be longer than 150 – 250 words in total, (Paiz, Joshua, 2016). When considering how to write your abstract, you need to think of what you would write to lure readers to your paper who were looking into buying it at a magazine stand, (Paiz, Joshua, 2016). This will help you to attract the proper audience, (Paiz, Joshua, 2016). In APA style, it is important to not use direct quotes, (Paiz, Joshua, 2016). Typically, it is best to utilize the art of paraphrasing and using in text cites to give the rightful author credit for their work, (Paiz, Joshua, 2016). If you apply these guidelines, there is no reason why you should not be able to write a beautiful and eloquent paper.
