There is no denying the fact that in the modern world people give their special attention to the food. For instance, there are a lot of cuisines and recipes in the modern world. Each of them mostly includes vegetables, fruits, animals’ meet or fish. However, our society lives in the wonderful but difficult times. The rising of humans’ population creates huge problems to agriculture specialists everywhere. Therefore, in order to find a way to feed all people in the world scientists focus on insects and their useful features. As a result, researchers found out that they could replace our original meat in future. Actually, people differ greatly towards this issue. Personally, I believe that people should eat insects because of their useful qualities. My arguments for this point are listed as follows.
First, it is a well-known fact that people need to eat protein in order to be strong, healthy, and to retain the normal body weight. Its biggest part we take from animal meat. However, insects can be also a great source of protein. Actually, they have even more its amount than others living things that people are used to eating nowadays. For instance, crickets include 21 gram of protein per 100 grams of their own weight (Diet et al.). In addition, they include many other useful elements and vitamins. The most important of them are riboflavin, amino acids, active form of the vitamin A, and vitamin B12 (Diet et al.). Thus, taking into account all of this positive points, I have to admit that insects have all necessary and useful elements for human health. Therefore, they can easily replace modern sources of protein, vitamins, and minerals that we take from the animal meat.
Besides, there are a variety of eating insects. According to the data of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations there are almost 1.500 different species that people can eat without worrying about different unpleasant consequences for their health ("IAF What Is Entomophagy?").
Furthermore, according to the article that was written by Premalatha et al. (2011), their producing does not require a lot of efforts and other technological, financial or legal issues. Thus, insects become also cheaper than ordinary animal meat. Moreover, new kind of farmers do not need a lot of space and other stuff in comparison with the usual farmers (Premalatha et al.). This situation creates great possibilities for the future of the international food programs, especially in the most problem regions of our planet.
Another reason why I advocate that people should eat insects is that they help to safe our environment and to reduce our harmful effect on nature. As an evidence, I should mention research that was conducted in the Wageningen University and Research Centre in 2011. Scientists studied the amount of greenhouse gases that are emitted by different living things. As a result, they found out that insects create the smallest amount of greenhouse gases among others (Wageningen University and Research Centre). This fact opens new affordable perspectives for the replacing animal protein on the insect one in order to provide necessary food for all people in the world.
However, insects are not always good for a human health. In some cases, they have hidden issues, therefore, people have to be aware of this possibility and put an attention on different important details. For instance, researcher decided to find a real evidence that crickets can replace original animal protein. In order to do that, they divided insects on several group and each of them had special diet. As a result, scientists found out that crickets demand special nutrition for themselves (Oaklander). Otherwise, they will not always be good for people as the main source of protein, amino acids, and useful vitamins. This fact can ruin plans of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations because nowadays there is no compulsory diet for crickets on the farms. Therefore, recognizing such a negative possibility, I have to admit that the transition period from animal meat to the insects may take more time as we expected.
Despite the negative fact from the previous passage, I have to admit that situation can be better than we think. For instance, people from Asia and Mexico regularly eat many meals with insects. Thus, in order to take this kind of food on the global level, specialists from different agriculture spheres should evaluate and try to create special farms for insects according to the standards from those countries. Moreover, it is extremely important to follow the best diet for insects in order to grow them with bigger number of protein and other useful elements, minerals, and vitamins. Personally, I believe that these methods will reduce amount of negative comments about insects and increase their popularity among people from all over the world.
Therefore, from what I have discussed, I may reach the conclusion that the question about eating insects is still a difficult one to answer definitely. However, based on the reasons and facts analyzed above, I am convinced that people should eat them in order to save the environment and find a way to create the necessary amount of food for the modern society. Besides, they can be delicious and cheaper than animal meat. Without a doubt, they are our tickets to the future with healthier environment and fresh air.
