The human civilization started from the bottom of the hierarchy among the species and becomes the most supreme or influential specie in the modern times. People have greatly changed the world. The grasslands and forests became cities and agricultural lands. The natural environment has been useful for humans and provides people almost everything they need to survive on earth. The natural environment provided the oxygen, water, food, materials and other resources to humans (Muir 37). However, instead of being thankful to the environment, people have been destroying it in order to acquire additional benefits such as additional land use for recreation and large-scale production of materials or energy.
In the modern times, only a small portion of the earth’s wilderness or wildlife area remains. These areas are not disturbed by people and became shelters for numerous animals and plant species. Almost all areas in the world are part of the wilderness before the humans alter the nature or the environment. These areas are commonly destroyed by humans through deforestation and changes in land use in order to establish agricultural lands, industrial lands or residential areas.
In addition, continues human activities such as pollution and excessive energy use which leads to climate change or global warming also resulted to the destruction of these areas (Stevens np). This became a trend in the modern times and could also continue to the future unless people started to take care of the environment and decided to protect or preserve the earth’s remaining wilderness or wildlife area.
One of the major reasons why people should preserve or protect what is left on the planet’s wilderness is to be thankful for what the environment is giving them. People have been using resources from the environment for thousands of years. Yet, people are not thankful for these benefits by trying to preserve portions or areas of the wilderness. Instead, humans kept establishing areas for their own purposes and continue to destroy nature through the process. Preserving or protecting the remaining wilderness or wildlife area on earth is one way of being thankful to the environment. This act could also save millions of species of plants and animals and help establishing the balance within nature or the ecological biodiversity.
People should change the way they treat nature and they could start it by preserving or protecting what is left on the planet’s wilderness. The resources from the nature are also limited like the human patience. When a certain person is giving something beneficial to you, you should be thankful by trying to reciprocate the benefits that were given. If you are not thankful and instead trying to damage or hurt the person who gives something beneficial to you, that person may lose trust and stop giving the benefits.
The same goes with nature. The nature could not provide all the necessary resources to humans due to its limitations. People should start to preserve and protect the remaining wilderness in order to continue to acquire numerous benefits from nature such as clean air and water. If the remaining wilderness is destroyed or becomes extinct, there would come a time that humans could not acquire essential benefits from nature and also suffer from global problems or even extinction.
Another reason why people should preserve or protect what is left on the planet’s wilderness is because doing it does not require large effort or activities. Preserving the remaining wilderness may be considered as a difficult task for humans. It requires long duration of commitment and large accumulated actions from every individual on earth. However, small efforts or actions could great affect the outcome of any strategy to save the remaining wilderness or wildlife area on earth. These small actions commonly start with small changes in the lifestyle of people which could not greatly affect how they live their lives or how they enjoy life itself.
Some of these small efforts include recycling, avoiding pollution and conserving energy or other useful resources especially the ones which came from the nature or the wilderness. Recycling of paper could greatly reduce the amount of paper manufactured or amount of trees which are cut down from forests. On the other hand, recycling of plastics could greatly reduce the risk of pollution especially in the ocean (Connacher np). Recycling seems a difficult or strenuous activity but common people do not have to participate in the whole process of recycling. Simple separation of the recyclables during the disposal of garbage could greatly help the community in the recycling activity.
Avoiding pollution is also a small effort that could help in preserving or protecting the remaining wilderness on the planet. People could help in this action or strategy by avoiding littering and reducing the amounts of wastes produced each day. For example, instead of using plastic bags in supermarkets, common consumers should bring their own bag in order to reduce the plastic wastes.
Conservation of energy and resources could also help in reducing the effects of climate change or global warming which is also affecting the environment or the wild life areas. People could start conserving water and electricity at their homes in order to help the environment. These actions or efforts are not difficult and could not affect people’s way of life. In addition, it is also a way for people to engage in strategies to avoid global problems while enjoying their own lives.
Lastly, people should also preserve or protect what is left on the planet’s wilderness because it is a way for investing in the future. The future of the human race becomes uncertain due to numerous global issues or problems including climate change and pollution. People could change the course of the future by investing on sustainable methods and help in preserving the earth’s remaining wilderness. According to Aldo Leopold (58), “In wilderness is the salvation of the world”. It means one way to save humanity and all the living things on earth is to preserve the wilderness or wildlife areas. Preserving or protect what is left on the planet’s wilderness is a way of giving hope for the future.
In general, people should protect the planet’s remaining wilderness as a way of thanking the environment for the benefits which have given to them for thousands of years and as a form of investment for the development of future or for the survival of the human race. In addition, people also have the responsibility and the capability to acquire these goals through the accumulation of small efforts coming from all individuals on the planet. People do not need to be informed about the scientific concepts involving the laws of nature or how human activities affect the environment and the wilderness. People should only be grateful that humans have flourished on earth with the help of nature and send the back even small efforts to compensate these benefits. Lastly, preserving or protecting the remaining earth’s wilderness is also one way of giving necessary hope for the future generations.
