A-Level Book Review On End Of Sex For Free Use

Fundamentally, the main theme in Freitas’ book “The End of sex” is that young people have developed pressure to involve themselves in the casual sex and other similar circumstances. The author describes this situation as the “hook up” culture. According to Freitas, “hookup” phenomenon in young people, particularly the students has varied descriptions and so the definitions. According to some people, hookup may mean kissing, or the mouth or oral sex. Conversely, the majority perceive it as the virginal intercourse. According to Freitas, the hookup process leads to the emergence of a group of students who ignore books such as the gays, lesbians or those who cut across gay and lesbianism.
In the book, Freitas puts more emphasis on the evolution of the hookup phenomenon. In this case, it emerges because parents may provide information to their children and such information may be about the nature of the college lives. Freitas asserts that parents asserts that colleges are not times enjoy or be disturbed by the relationships, as young women also learn to guide their bodies and sex ability. However, the authors’ notes that as the hookup culture become dominant within the society and students surroundings, the students have ceased caring about themselves regarding sex, they have developed an inability to get attached individuals they sleeping with and ultimately do not always expect any relationships to follow. As a matter of fact, they instead value sexuality and educate themselves on the same. Freitas argue that most students believe that sexuality has no meaning and therefore, culture with itself is observed with negativity. Freitas makes a strong point of what is required of the society and particularly the parents. In this case, she asserts that instead of navigating through different educational mediums, racial background, religious and political affiliation on sex; it is important to enhance sensitisation on the importance of self-preservation and abstinence from intercourse before getting married. On a wider note, society needs to assist the students become attentive to individual different values they put about sexuality and ultimately assists them in manoeuvring this sophisticated matter instead of rebuking or threatening them in various ways. Freitas argue that other factors such as the porn act as the major foundation for students’ involvement in the uncontrolled sex. While porn may provide a firm base for the hook-up culture, others may unwittingly facilitate it thus manifesting itself greatly. In this case, as parents and educators, for instance, we have been so busy narrating to our children about way of having safe sex that is free from diseases and other risks.
In reality, Freitas does not perceive the issue with the uncontrolled sex and acknowledges that human being can appreciate sex as a single phenomenon, which integrates pleasure, exploration, and the intimacy. In this case, therefore, I agree with the author, particularly in his assertions about the problems associated with the hookup culture. A closer look at the book “The End of Sex” demonstrates that the author asserts that the hookup culture put more demands that an individual should follow similar systems without creating much arguments and questions on the truthfulness or desirability involved. Other issues related to the hookup culture are also observed towards the end of the book. In this sense, society has made it that women do not have power same as their men. Freitas mentions that even within a situation when women feel that they are in hook up or broadly in relationships, they cannot dictate or decide the conditions of the culture, but instead “feel okay.” The fact that Freitas points out what makes up the hookup culture in the current dispensation. For instance, alcohol is often incorporated in the hook ups because such sexual acts tries to be dominated substantially by drinks, parties, and picnics. However, it is unfortunate that young people who engage in such hookup cultures and who heavily drink believe that society expect them to do and therefore end up consuming alcohol excessively. In some circumstances, they do so because they think it is their ability and desire to involve themselves in a hook-up which reflects their social classes in the community.
While it is notable that the Freitas has succeeded in providing the big picture of various sexuality issues that affect students in their youthful stage, I also challenge the book due to its clinical nature. Ideally, the article reads like a journal long article, which’s hard to classify. The inclusion of the excellent ideas and perspectives are included throughout the book but sounds heavy to examine. In this case book paints an unflinchingly bleak picture. For example, Freitas provides an illustration of the manner in which hookup culture is leaving a generation unhappy and sexually unfulfilled. However, a close look at the book and the general discussion shows that the book does not explain how its results to confusion about intimacy.
