Leadership and public policy making play a major part in the management and development of a democratic society. In this 21st century. Policy making and leadership decisions require knowledge driven students with the necessary programs that manage the society. The modern society appears to work differently from the previous centuries. The focus on democracy according to Gerston helps analyze the society as well as their needs (Gerston, 23).
Leadership and policy making for modern and democratic society work effectively when knowledge-driven programs are used. These makes the leadership of a democratic society effective because democracy requires the policy makers to address societal issues. The improvement in the policy making would be the implementation and education of new policy making strategies that incorporate the modern views of the public. The use of case studies and public policy issues and agendas improve the overall society in leadership and development. According to disciplinary foundations I, exploration of public policy issues through the formulation, issue identification, advocacy, implementation, and evaluation helps equip the leaders before policy making.
The disciplinary foundations II uses case studies of real world leaders as well as theories that help the students expound on the leadership and policy-making processes. The personal assessment of the leadership case studies helps students analyze the various approaches used in policy making and leadership. The course is effective in teaching students the importance of public policy issues that determine the leadership approach to be used. The case studies and real world leaders help provide a point of reference for the students. The course also improves the understanding of the students by comparing modern and past cultural aspects of leadership and democracy as it appears to be evolving.
