Introduction
Accessibility and user friendliness are integral for websites since one of their primary objectives is to expand their usefulness to many individuals. Web accessibility considers the needs of both the able-bodied and disabled persons with regards to their interaction, navigation, understanding, and perception of the web. This essay illustrates the user-friendliness and accessibility of the U.S. Congressional website, Congress.gov.
The Search for the Website and Affordable Care Act
My search commenced by typing in the words U.S. Congressional Website on the Google Search Tab. From the list provided, I clicked on the first option of Congress.Gov. On the Search Tab, I typed the terms Affordable Care Act and was given the various legislative developments of the law. The information provided by the website involving the Act includes health care provisions, the repeal of the policy in relation to the Education and Health Care Reconciliation Act, amendments, proceedings, etc. (Congress.gov “Legislation”).
The Website
Congress.gov entails a website that provides federal legislative data for the United States. It is a modern and integrated site that gives complete, timely, and accurate information to the public and Congress (Congress.gov “Legislation”).
User-friendliness and Accessibility
Congress.gov provides guidelines on how to conduct searches in their collections via the Search Tools overview. One can also save the information by creating a personal account. The website also has adequate space and utilizes formal colors to indicate that it is a government website (Congress.gov “Legislation”).
Disability and Health Care Coverage
Obtaining information from the site is quite easy by simply typing in the terms in the search tab. There are also videos of the hearings that have taken place involving different legislations. However, Congress.gov does not indicate how a disabled person can apply for the disability and medical coverage. The site appears to only deal with policies and laws; hence, it does not give guidelines or any assistance on the appropriate steps a disabled individual can take to acquire the health care coverage (Congress.gov “Legislation”).
Conclusion
The internet has become a central part of health care. People can obtain services, medical information, and access specialists via the internet. For this reason, many organizations have turned to marketing or developing awareness using websites. Congress.gov has assisted numerous individuals to obtain legislative information. However, it is still yet up to the task in the matters involving the disabled persons.
