Question 1
The four primary purposes of the San Diego Climate Action Plan are:
Providing a road map to enable the achievement of GHG reductions.
Conforming to California laws and regulations.
Implementing the 2008 General Plan.
Provides CEQA tiering for new development’s GHG emissions.
Emission percentage distribution from different activities in San Diego
Question 2
The various percentage emission distributions are as follows:
Transportation was the highest with 55%
Electric was second with 26%
Natural gas was third with 16%
Solid waste and wastewater was 3%.
5 bold strategies to reduce GHG emissions
There were various strategies that were put into place so as to reduce GHG emissions as seen below:
Strategy 1: energy and water efficient buildings
This will involve making innovations and making technological improvements that augment energy efficiency and also provide a chance for renewable energy generation. This move will target all the people in the city from residential and non residential buildings. By doing this, the city will manage to cut down on emissions.
2: Clean and renewable energy
This is essential in the realization of the GHG reduction targets. A combination of efforts from on-site generation and large scale renewable efforts will make sure the city attains its targets comfortably. There will be installation of renewable energy sources locally.
3: Bicycling, walking, transit and land use
4: Zero Waste
Waste management will go a long way in attaining the city’s goals. This will ensure that waste is managed well with source reduction, recycling and gas capturing.
5: Climate Resiliency
This is the capability of a system to absorb disturbances and take care of the undergoing changes. There will be the development of measures to combat pollutions and emissions.
