According to the American Nurse Association (ANA), a healthy work environment should be safe, empowering and satisfactory to all the workers without necessarily posing any threat that could harm the physical being, mental and social being of the workers. A happy healthy and comfortable working environment determines the levels of output and the profits that an organization enjoys, meaning that it is mandatory for all the employers to provide a safe and comfortable working environment for their employees. Healthy workplace also increases productivity as well as the morale of workers to a great extent, and they work with determination for the better of the company (Clements-Croome 24).
Managerial responsibility should be encouraged in a working environment especially in cases that managers set good examples and encouraging fruitful teamwork to prevent bullying that is unacceptable (Djurkovic et al. 410). The managers should also understand that workplace violence is mandatory, but they should come with the right ways of solving such violence and encouraging togetherness in the workplace. Healthy working environment is mandatory, and therefore, safety legislation should be considered. Managers should ensure that risk assessments are carried out so as to discover hazards in the workplace, and how to control them to ensure that employees are in working in a safe environment. Workplace standards that will give a healthy workplace include sanitation, sufficient ventilation and safe drinking water.
In any working environment, fatigue is inescapable. Fatigue comes in as a result of long working hours or too much work in a workplace. Fatigue makes employees unproductive, and therefore, managers should create a working environment that is free from fatigue by job rotation and work shift. OSHA focuses on effective workplace safety and health management systems on training employees, managers and supervisors, worksite analysis, employee involvement in decision making and hazard prevention and control to ensure a health workplace for tremendous production (O’Toole 235).
