1a) American Dream. It is another way to describe the way of life of the Americans. It relates to the concept of equality, as every person must have the same opportunity and status in the society (Michels).
1b) Manifest Destiny. It is a belief during the expansion period in the United States which fueled the Americans that they are not only able to expand territories, but also destined to do so (History).
1c) American Exceptionalism. It is a term rooted from socialist theories that the founding of America, which was based on religious ideologies, is different as compared to other nations, which are built due to nationalism (Lipset).
1d) Cultural Genocide. As the name implies, it refers to the demolition of cultural norms or traditions done in the past. Since the past culture is broken down, it can be related to the conccepts of modernism.
1e) Prison-Industrial Complex. It is a way to solve different problems regarding the economic, social, and political aspects of the government, through the use of power in the form of monitoring, laws, and punishments (Critical Resistance).
1f) Racial Caste. It is a hierarchy in a diverse society wherein different races are being ranked based on different factors such as ethnicity, color, and culture.
2b) The use of mass media significantly changed the views of the world upon the Muslim race. According to Alsultany, new standards, both in positive and negative way, were created to the Muslims in different mass media. However, the concept of gatekeeping was mostly used in most forms of media with the purpose of filtering the incoming information about the Muslims.
2d) The essays pertained to the modern Jim Crow. Even though the level of racism today is not intense as to the kind of racism in the past, there are still traces of evidences of past racism which still linger to the American society up to this day. On the other hand, the gender is not that much of an issue today. Most people are now considered equal in the American society in terms of opportunities and gender (Wright). As such, there is no direct relationship between the racialization and gender. The two aspects are separated from one another, but the racialization issues are more prominent.
