Gun Violence in US
Statement of the problem
Gun violence in the United States has been an issue of concern in the recent past. According to Kuehn (2013) the US has the highest rates of gun violence in the world. For instance, thousands of injuries and deaths occur annually due firearms. Besides,Shuffelton (2015) contends that 1.4% of the total deaths in the US are caused by gun related violence. The increase in the gun related suicide, homicide and mass shooting cast doubts on the effectiveness of the gun control regulations. A study by Brien et al. (2013) indicates that despite the various gun control policies have been enacted by the US government, the state and the federal governments have been unable to end gun violence in the US society especially in schools and marginalized communities.
The purpose and scope of the study
The purpose of the study is to examine various gun control strategies that are used to control the gun violence in the United States. Also, the study will investigate the reasons why the gun violence policies have been unable to reduce gun related crimes and what ought to be done to deal with the issue conclusively. The study will be limited to incidents of gun violence in high schools especially among the marginalized communities in the US.
The target group for the study
The research will be of great significance to policy makers and educators since the recommendations from the study can be incorporated in the gun control policies so as to end the vice.
Methodology
The researcher will use quantitative survey with questionnaire being the main tool that will be used in the data collection. Both closed and open ended questionnaires will be used in the study. Since the questionnaires will be targeting teachers, parents and high school students, the questionnaires will be short and precise so as to avoid any confusion on the side of the respondent (Yin, 2013).Also; stratified sampling method will be employed in the study. The researcher will sample schools in states where most of the marginalized communities in the US reside.
