Museums have always been the world of mystery and inclination to me. Each and every day we are facing the present, living in a daily routine, and rushing in the rat race; we never seem to stop and think about the history of our ancestors or the real facts of our past. Nevertheless, our history does not but plays an integral part in the lives of everyone, especially when the history of one of the most fascinating cities is told. New York is the heart of the United States of America; thousands of people strive to settle down in this megalopolis, many of them are even ready to work for a penny, live in a lopsided, dilapidated house, hardly making both ends meet, but to live in the Big Apple. The most memorable event I have had for the last half of a year was a trip to the Museum of the City of New York.
First of all, the first thing which attracted was the way it takes back its visitors to the history, as well as reflects our present and gives a possible variation of the future as well. The collections and exhibitions of photographs or pictures, devoted to the past are really breathtaking. They somehow drive you into the past, so that you get a feeling of living in those days. To my mind, the museum is exhibiting very timely and touching photographs. Being a baseball fan, the exhibition The Glory Days: New York Baseball 1947-1957 impressed me most of all. It shows, to my mind, a collection of the best photographs of baseball plays in those days. I looked through the best shots and fails; I indulged myself in this baseball spirit, and let the game into my heart.
The museum itself is very well organized; there are a great number of things, which you will never see anywhere, at the same time, despite being very popular, it is not overcrowded. Due to having a variety of exhibitions and collections, it is attended by people of all the layers of society and with different interests and views. When I visited the museum for the first time, I did know that I would definitely come back soon. The abundance of information did not allow me visit all the exhibitions at a time; however, I am convinced that it is much better to come from time to time to learn more new facts and get new emotions.
I liked the museum, as it first and foremost gave me food for thought, it gave me a desire to learn new, to come home and open up a book about US history; and to my mind, when a museum is awaking such feelings, its main goal is achieved.
