It is depressing for the people who walk through the city and town streets every day seeing beggars in huge numbers. This research paper is discussing a proposal by Jonathan Swift on how children born of poor mothers will receive care and their mothers as well will get good money and be able to pay rent to their proprietors. Female beggars with young infants are the most common all over the world. The female beggars spend their entire day in the streets to get something to feed their children instead of going to workplaces to earn a living for their families. After the entire struggle, it is unfortunate that the infants on the female beggars grow up end up on the same city streets begging or stealing. If easy, cheap and great methods are set up these children to make them dependable to the society, it would be a very good idea. If the children become trustworthy, they will provide for their parents at an older age and cloth them after adoption into other families. Jonathan Swift believes that if the children after training will be able to live and support their parents this reduces the number of abortions carried out which significantly reduce the country’s population are bring up a society with poor morals.
Children put into consideration depend on where they are born for instance there are infants who come from a family that has other children, the parents, in that case, some can provide for the children while others will not be able especially those born from street families who mostly beg (Swift). After taking a deeper look at the children born, the number that can be provided for is very small, the majority of the infant parents should at least be employed in houses as they cannot be able to build houses of cultivating in the firms. The infants mostly end up stealing at the age of six years if they grow up in families where getting the basic needs is a struggle. If the children from infancy period to seven-year-old babies receive care, the number of such cases of abandoned babies who are likely to become thieves will reduce.
Twelve-year-old children cannot produce a lot; employing them will not have any benefit to the society. A baby with proper nursing at the age of one year with good care of nurses is healthy. In the hospital environment, good children feeding will enable them to be able to feed the other infants in the future, as the mother gets money to feed well and prepare to get others. Male infants who receive good care of will be able to provide for four infant girls when they grow up, especially if the infants’ boys are in a favorable time feed well-making majority of them be healthy throughout and will make a good contribution to the mothers. An infant in the care of a nurse will cost a few cents to take care of in a year; the healthy child brings payment of around ten shillings and from that amount. The mother can get eight shillings net profit and will be in good health until she gets another child.
There are some advantages to taking care of infants and their mothers. First is that the number of papists will significantly reduce and in addition is that the male infants can take advantage and will be the principal breeders in a country. Another advantage is that the tenants can pay rent to their tenants, pay for other expenses such as corn and as well cattle. Maintenance for the children who are of two years of age and above cannot be ten shillings and less in a year. The country will have the stock increasing up to sixty thousand in a year; this will also help money to circulate among the people. Apart from the money gained the mothers and wives in marriages have challenges and take good care of their children, on the other hands mothers who have children outside marriage will take care of the children as they earn a profit.
If families constantly visit the town to buy children, frequently besides Christmas and other holidays the mothers will be getting a good amount of money annually, and the rest will sell at lower prices to the kingdom. This proposal will lessen the number of people in the kingdom, reducing the number of street children who live an abandoned life because their mothers cannot afford a decent life. As the families go to the streets and buy the children at a few coins, the mothers will get profit and be ready to make more babies in the future. The infants will also make the marriage attractive, as the husbands will regularly check their wives to make sure they also get healthy babies. As the families feel the streets to get healthy babies as well to adopt for the couple who do not have children.
