In the film clip “A More Perfect Union” the issues of racism are examined by President Obama. In one section of the speech he proclaims "Just as black anger often proved counterproductive, so have these white resentments distracted attention from the real culprits of the middle class squeeze?” One this issue I tend to agree with President Obama, resentment between races is something that needs to be abolished if we are ever to truly erase racism. I understand that this is a loaded issue because of the mistreatment of some minority groups in the past, while I feel that they have been justified for their resentment in the past, I think that now these feelings need to be put aside for the betterment of all races.
The president also quotes William Faulkner in his speech when he stated, "The past isn't dead and buried; in fact, it isn't even past." This statement represents the idea that past issues are not easily forgotten and that there are still some racism that exists within society. This statement indicates that all these issues must be left in the past if we are to succeed as a racism free country.
I do feel that the majority of citizens want America to be a transracial country. Each generation seems to be more tolerant of other races than the generation before them. An increase in multiracial, couples, children, and workplaces shows that American desires equality in both the home and work front. I think as it becomes easier to communicate with others via media we are able to better get out the message of equality and teach others about issues that exist so that they can be addressed.
