Executive Summary
This report highlights my experience at Bonatti industry, working in the welding department. It will detail what I learnt while working and its relation to my career
Introduction
Bonatti industry is a Construction and operation & maintenance services company, located in Saudi Arabia. They especially deal with oil & Gas and power. The company has the following departments: plant construction, pipelines and Multi-Utility networks, Automation and Electrical solutions building and Infrastructure and EPC projects. Besides, they also participate in corporate social responsibility as part of their mission. In this report, I will address the activities I undertook, what I learnt and how I can apply it in other related areas.
I worked in the welding department as an assistant welder since I had little experience. I worked engaged in oil pipes construction and assembling of pipes and electrical equipments. Being a first time employee in the company, I had to read and understand the safety measures and equipment required in the industry.In addition the pamphlet included the precautionary measures that an employee required to take in case of an accident. Every employee was required to have safety shoes to avoid stepping on sharp objects and toxic chemicals. Safety helmets were necessary to protect the head .every welder needed to wear dark glasses designed to regulate amount of light and protect one’s eyes from splashing of sparks during welding. It was also a requirement to wear safety gloves to avoid excessive friction and protect one’s hands from sharp objects.
Moreover, a uniform was necessary to ensure easier recognition of members from intruders. The uniforms were customized to include numbers and the company logo. This was essential in distinguishing members of different departments to enhance accountability. The company also had equipped fire extinguisher machines which were trained on how to use them in case of a fire break out. The company’s main entrance was automated and every employee had a gate pass to enhance security. This was part of the company’s legal obligations as stipulated in the International Industry safety and standards Act.
My daily routine was welding as it was aligned to my career. This task proved to be challenging since it was my first experience in the field. I had a challenge in welding multiple pieces together .Thus, I would consume a lot of time welding each pipe at a time. Also the excessive light was a challenge to my sight which would demand that I rest after I was through with a single task. Due to my young age, it was a challenge to lift some heavy metals.
The company’s goal to be digital was evident in use of Auto Cad ,a computer application in 2D and 3D dimension used in designing and drawing of structures before manufacturing.
My main department was welding .some of the activities I engaged in were: measuring the required units for a certain oil pipe, designing the structure of the pipes using the Auto CAD and assembling pipes on the ground ready to start service. Besides, I participated in weekly trainings on welding and safety training seminars that occurred bi-weekly.
Conclusion
Being an employee of Bonatti for a period of three months, I have gained notable experience which I could use in any bother related department. It will be my pleasure to continue discharging my duties diligently and transparently to achieve the set objectives.
