Introduction
The 20th century started an upheaval of a staggering amount of increase in the number of immigrants moving to USA . Most of the immigrants came from Mexico, Eastern and Southern Europe. The core reason for their immigration was a very strong emphasis on a secure and strong economy and also on an economical and business perspective .
We have interviewed one of those immigrants who name is Sergio Sanchez. Sergio is a former banker who recently retired from his 28 years service at the financial giant, Wells Fargo. He was only 18 years old when he moved to USA from Mexico with his family. They had left their native country Mexico due to the political and economical instability in the country. Sergio told his immigration story to us and told us the reason why did he migrate to USA.
Questionnaire Q1. When and where were you born?
My name is Sergio Sanchez. I was born in 1946 in Mexico City, Mexico. I was living with my parents and 2 siblings in the suburban part of Mexico City. Both my father and mother were highly educated and financially stable and were teaching in one of the most prestigious universities of Mexico. When I finished my high school in 1964, I was planning to go to university and be as successful as my parents but it was not to be and due to some unfavorable circumstances in Mexico, I had to move to USA.
Q2. How and why did you come to the USA?
The 1950’s and 1960’s were a time of economic and social turmoil for Mexico. Political instability made Mexico a highly volatile and a susceptible state and that was when we decided to the USA. I came with my family through a steamship which sailed through the New York harbor in the early 1960’s. There were hundreds of other people who accompanied us in our voyage to USA. The travel was cumbersome. But we reached our destination promptly and safely. It is obvious that the main reason for our move to USA was that the government of USA had made an immense contribution for the development and stability of the economy through various sectors. It had helped the government to find out various developmental plans for economic growth and it has been one of the primary reasons which have propelled us to move from Mexico to USA and it helped us to make certain amendments which were beneficial for our family.
Q3. How did you arrange for the finances to pay for your move to the U.S.A?
As I said before, I came from a financially strong and healthy background. We had sufficient savings and financing available to move and settle in the USA and my family was confident that we would do well in the USA.
Q4. What were the circumstances of your country of origin which influence your decision to migrate?
In the 1960’s, citizens of Mexico were quite concerned about the economic conditions of the country. USA was a booming economy in the 1960’s and 70’s and it had done its best to improve the efficiency and performance of the country and they had focused very hard on the economic development of USA. We were optimistic about our future in USA and knew that the current economic position of USA is perfect to settle. The government of USA had made some impressive plans for the long term sustainability of the country and had invested heavily on health and education projects which were important to the solidarity of the country in the long run and it had convinced many expatriates to move to the USA.
Summary/ Findings and conclusions
The results and the overall summary of the interview have helped to reveal some very important facts regarding the idea behind the migration to USA. According to Sergio, Mexico was an impoverished and under developed economy which had been struggling to maintain peace and harmony within the country. The government of Mexico had worked hard to improve the economic infrastructure of Trade and commerce within the deteriorating economic framework of the country but there were several hurdles and barriers to the achievement of this motive. Due to this reason, this interview had focused intensively on the impact which immigration has created on expatriates who have come from different corners of the world and to settle in USA and how they can bolster the economic and financial prospects of an already developed country like USA. Through the questionnaires asked to Sergio Sanchez, it was revealed that the social and political security has been the main reason why this country has attracted several expatriates from foreign for various reasons and this in turn has lead to an enhanced level of domestic and foreign investment in the country. The respondents were quite optimistic about the SME sector and were of the view that the city could be an economic powerhouse within the region if the government and the private sector are able to contribute in this sector.
This questionnaire has certainly helped to compile and develop an idea the reason behind migration to the USA for a foreign expatriate. The government of USA has done well in development of various economic and financial sectors of the country and further research and analysis in the future will help to give a formidable explanation behind the immigration to USA.
