Introduction
The book, “A systems approach to small group interaction 11th edition” is a revised edition from the tenth edition of the same book. Stewart writes it. Ideally, it entails different scholarly and practical information based on a small group interaction. The content does not deviate from the title. It is comprised of eight distinct chapters within which information from the tenth edition has been modified to address the current audience. The various named and edited material within the book are as a result of the frank contributions from the avid readers of the book. The main adjustments are deemed to have been made by the students and professors. Accordingly, the myriad adjustments to the book have given it additional relevance with respect to the objective it possesses towards the audience. The book contains eight chapters within which the ideas are organized in chronological order. The objective of this paper is to summarize the major concepts as applied within the book, “A systems approach to small group interaction 11th edition”.
Chapter one(What is small group interaction?)

In addition to that, the first chapter also emphasizes on the importance of group formation to human beings. It discusses the materiality of that essence. It addresses the need to address different problems and situations and problems in the form of groups. Conclusively, formation of groups enables the human being to evolve better decision making strategies. However, it analyses a research derived from the journal “the wall street Journal” which is based on the categorical levels of dissatisfaction that is found within groups yet there are frantic increases in the number of small groups (Tubbs, 2012). Accordingly, this has created a contentious situation, where a distinct discussion of the need for an interaction group in colleges. The chapter emphasizes on how important it is to share ideas with the objective of learning between learners. In connection to that, the book emphasizes on the systems that have emerged. Ideally, these systems demand a method of solving problems. The proposed method is termed as the “see it, own it, solve it and do it” method.
Chapter three (Relevant background factors)
The second chapter is elaborate on the preferable methods of communication. Precisely, it deals with good communication processes that are deemed applicable within the groups setting. Ideally, the author tries to elaborate three character traits that are important in the formulation of proper communication processes. They include the language behavior, roles of interaction and personal disclosure (Tubbs, 2012). Ideally, for the communication process to be identified as appropriate, the subject individuals ought to appropriate their language behavior. First, the chapter discloses various situations within which one's language behavior and interaction are analyzed. Good communication traits lead to better forms of leadership. In addition, communication failure may lead to hazardous impacts that are not favorable to any organization. The example given in this chapter is the $300 loss which occurred in the United States because of poor communication.
Chapter four (Group circumstances and structure)
In the communication, there are relevant character traits that are expected to dominate within the members of any group. These character traits are well discussed in the third chapter. Initially, social groups are found essential towards the economic and social well-being of the society. In that connection, they are important and should be maintained (Tubbs, 2012). However, for that to happen, some factors should be considered. The six factors that are discussed in this chapter include gender, age, health status, personal values, attitude and one’s personality. The consistency of these attributes in terms of group effectiveness is deemed essential.
Chapter four
The character traits mentioned in the prior chapter are then utilized in the fourth chapter. Ideally, the fourth chapter comes up with a framework that brings about the need for the group formation. In addition, this chapter also discusses the ways through which these groups affect the character and personal way of viewing things. Ideally, groups formed may be very effective in minimization of the rate at which some of the members are idle (Tubbs, 2012). Thus, some groups are identified to have been formed on the basis of friendship. Good leadership qualities lead to success in any organization (Tubbs, 2012). The book provides an essential example of the Current president of the United States of America, Barrack Obama. Ideally, the leadership character traits of Barrack Obama are distinguished and admirable whenever he practices them within meetings. In addition, communication efficiency is termed as a key perspective in the whole idea of college cooperation between students.
Personal opinion
With regard to the opinion point of view, small groups are formed on different points of view. Initially, groups may be formed on the basis of college discussions on scholarly material. This enhanced joint learning where the students are able to merge ideas. It is important to note that whenever myriads ideas are contributed towards a certain topic, then the solution given is usually outstanding. Ideally, these are basic foundations of small groups’ integrations concept. That is; as these students engage in group formation, then their skills on personal expression are also updated. They are able to convey better skills in communication, as well as leadership within these scenarios. Ideally, any skill which possesses a firm foundation will always yield encouraging results.
Gradual development of skills leads to the formation of better societal and corporate groups. The level of interaction within these groups is entirely determined by the character traits displayed by the members of the group. That is; the personal attributes, attitude, values among other vital traits contribute towards triumphant encounters in small group interactions. According to the book, poor small groups may be formed on the basis of friendship. It is not absolutely perfect to consider social relations in corporate groups. This is because of the nonconformity of some of the individuals who take advantage of the friendship status that exists amongst them.
Conclusively, local communities, as well as corporate societies consider the concept of small group formation as one of the most essential route towards joint success. Individualistic operation at most times leads to immature decisions. On the other hand, the level of integration between the members of these groups is supposed to be administered from a young stage. It is important to note that if the level of personal coordination is not considered, the aggregate coordination of the whole group is then deemed to be irrelevant. In the current learning system, one of the most essential skills that should be trained within the academic curriculum should involve formation of groups. It is essential for the development of better leadership platforms, leading to better social and economic status.
