Summary of the Genogram
The above genogram represents three generations all of which face hereditary health and social problems right from the original parents to the descendants. Through the above genogram, we can view the inherited patterns through the three generations. In the above genogram the health complications that affect the generations range from hereditary diseases such as diabetes, alcohol-caused diseases, and psychological problems.
Firstly, the genogram represents three generations that result from three primary households. The first family originates from the marriage between Michael (1946-1992) and Susan (1948). The second household is that of Miguel (1939-1999) and Rosemary (1942). The last home is that of Evans (1941-1998) and Rebecca (1945-2005). From the household, we can observe several diseased individuals with the causes of their demise ranging from diseases such as mental illnesses while others just die due to old age. With some of the deaths resulting from diseases, we observe that alcohol leads to the death of Michael, who developed a mental illness. The alcohol abuse behavior is hereditary along his lineage. We see that the son, Wilson, developed drug abuse habits from his father. After marrying Angelina, they sire three children, Michele, Tony, and Elvis. Due to the habits of the father, Tony develops an alcohol abuse problem. Hence, after a thorough observation of Michael's lineage, we observe the hereditary behavior of alcohol abuse that can lead to mental illnesses and other diseases caused by alcohol in future. Also, the intermarriage that occurs between the household of Michael and Miguel creates further implications. We see that the new family formed faces both autism and alcohol complications posing a greater threat to the descendants.
After a thorough observation of the Miguel's and Evans' households, we can observe hereditary physical conditions and psychological conditions. Firstly, we see that Evans suffered from diabetes. The diabetes complication, as a result, leads to his death leaving Rebecca to be a widow. We see the daughter, Gloria inheriting the diabetic condition from the fact that she belongs to a family affected by the condition hence it is hereditary.
Moreover, Miguel suffered from autism before his death. Due to the genetic effect, the son Collins also develops the condition which he later passes to the daughter, Mary. Nevertheless, we see that the divorce between Collins and Gloria affect the daughter Mary who develops depression. Depression is at this moment a psychological condition that can result from a social aspect for example divorce, separation, and other social issues. Due to the depression that she went through after the divorce between her parents, Mary cannot sustain the marriage between her and Elvis. Therefore these two separate after the two give birth to a son Sammy.
Hence, after observing the hereditary behavior that takes place in the most household, we can therefore acknowledge that genograms help us to visualize these patterns and understand the origin of various conditions. Moreover, through the genogram, we can see the impacts that different social and emotional relationships have in heredity.
