Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group (ADSG):
It is a partnership form of an initiative that was founded in June 2008. The founders of the group include the Environmental Agency and the General Secretariat of Abu Dhabi (Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group, 2012). The primary mission of the Abu Dhabi Group is to ensure that knowledge and learning opportunities are well-embraced and shared. The group’s primary vision is to facilitate the growth of a unified society that is of global competence. For this reason, sustainability is promoted. Furthermore, the group is committed towards the adoption of good economic and environmental practices to boost its overall performance.
The group is composed of 43 members and is geared towards the adoption of sustainability by embracing strategic policies as its organizational tool. The group has various goals which include: creating awareness of sustainability management, facilitating sustainability management practices, supporting initiatives that are geared towards sustainability and enhance international relationships by creating opportunities.
The group has primarily focused on the gradual growth of how it delivers its services since 2008. This has been a complete display of how mature its members are. From the year 2008 to the year 2010, the group mainly laid its foundation in matters related to service provision. By so doing, the Abu Dhabi Group is ranked as the world’s best in the provision of sustainability services.
In the year 2010, the Group focused on unleashing transparency with 22 members then. The data given to government agencies by the company was supported by the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) in Government Agencies. Reporting countries such as Sweden, Canada and the UK totally display its sustainability. For this reason, the Abu Dhabi Government focuses on being among the five best governments worldwide by the year 2030 (Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group, 2012).
The Abu Dhabi Group from the year 2011 to the year 2013 conducted flagship programs which have played a fundamental role in its success to achieve its vision. These programs are meant to curb issues related to sustainability. Practicing sustainability management appears to be a challenging task, and this is what these programs help in controlling. Moreover, these programs coordinate efforts from various ADSG members to promote sustainability practices regarding economic, social and environmental benefits.
The capability building reports present the gradual growth the group has made in ensuring that sustainability is well practiced with the help of flagship programs. The Sustainable Procurement Steering Committee (SPSC), which is part of ADSG, was founded in 2012 and is obliged with the task of overseeing the implementation of the flagship programs for over two years. The committee’s mission is to create a platform in ADSG to provide guidance, advice and training.
Sustainable Procurement is a process that ensures that organizations have a whole realization of their money value. It is through it that policies and laws are integrated to economic risks into decisions and procurement processes. The primary aim of these is to enhance the development of the industrial sector, realize time opportunities to improve transparency and facilitate the growth of regional markets to compete internationally.
The Sustainability Labor Practices Program is a program based on the flagship initiative aimed at strengthening partnerships between the government’s stockholders and private, public and non-profit making organizations. The Sustainability Labor Practices Program is meant to create employment for the young Emiratis though this comes along with various challenges such inaccurate data from the labor market. Lastly, the program is intended to promote coherence in labor market policies and employment as a whole. Moreover, the program is supposed to foster cooperation between labor markets thus promoting cohesiveness.
Finally, the ADSG has come up with an e-journal that comprises of its members, news related to members contributions and sustainability.
