Having studied computer engineering at Santa Clara University that is ranked almost at the same level with Sophia University, I think am at a better position to expand my knowledge on this field and to gain expertise more easily than a beginner. This is so since the design and development of computer video games requires so many of the computer hardware and software knowledge. Another advantage is that Sophia University has partnerships with the University of California, showing that the two universities are compatible in curriculum development and content delivery.
With the little knowledge I have about the University, though I have not been there in person, I am confident and can attest that the lecturers in Sophia University have firsthand experience in video productions. This is true for instance, of John Williams, who is globally thought of to be conversant with so many cultures from his learning and working experience. I couldn’t really say that my coming to Japan for studies is because of him, but to an extent it could provide for a platform to get interacting with him, and most probably learn his universally accepted video production skills.
It’s true that video games, as a part of mass media, need to be intertwined with culture. This is so because the mass media have, through the emergence of late capitalist society, become the main means of knowledge and information distribution around the world. I have a strong belief that studying in Japan would put me at a better placement of cultural diversity. By gaining knowledge on various cultures, I believe I will be vested with the necessary information that will aid my production and design of universally acceptable video games. I also hope to change my ideologies over the mass media and its constituents, probably from an enclosed perspective of one culture into appreciating cultural diversity. Interacting with a new environment and, most importantly with new people, I believe the whole representations of the videos I am to produce will be changed for the better.
My desire to studying in Japan is also based on the fact that I have a strong will to study heuristics. This is an area in video game production that I believe plays an important role in analyzing, exemplifying and cataloguing the significant usability-related problems in game design and in making out the harshness of each of these factors as concerns the users experience and competence in computer gaming. This also helps in determining the most urgent and pressing issues that may require faster and keen attention, especially when the inspection is done.
