People have assumptions that gay people do not respect families. They assume that the homosexuals are selfish as they only seek personal pleasure at the sacrifice of the family. They are not willing to extend the generation in which they were born. Most people believe in a family as inclusive of children while ageism and lesbians cannot get a baby from their relationships. Also, the people assume that the lesbians and gays fear the responsibilities that come with families. As such, they do not wish to get into relationships, which would lead to the birth of babies.
That is, do people believe that gay/lesbian "families" are just as common as heterosexual "families"? How so?
People do not believe in gay and lesbian families as common as heterosexual families. In gay and lesbian relationships, there are high chances of the couple remaining in a family of two forever unless they adopt children. Being people of similar sex they cannot bear children to make a complete family. On the other hand, heterosexual families are unique since the sexual relationship between the partners of the opposite sex can result to the birth of a child. Through natural means the heterosexual families are able to expand while the lesbians and gays cannot expand their families since they do not possess the ability to give birth. As such, homosexuality may be support for the stagnation of the growth of families while heterosexuality supports growth for families through sexual reproduction.
In turn, how are some young people in China challenging such assumptions?
In China, the young people are challenging the illegalization of Lesbians and gays through the court. They are seeking justice for their friends who had been denied marriage certificates by the court to register their marriages. Also, they hold protest to sensitize the activists and people of similar interest on how the government should allow them to practice homosexuality.
