a) Why do companies prepare a code of conduct?
Answer
In any company interaction among the staff is quite inevitable and therefore, to ensure professional interaction, a code of conduct is required. In addition, a code of conduct creates a base upon which the managerial decision can be made in the specified company it will be based on the scope under which the company is running by. Code of conduct is further important as it helps elaborate the boundaries through which the members are expected to act not only with regards to internal but also external interactions in order, to enable maintain the reputation of the company especially during a suit made against the company. However, it is worth noting that, the code of conduct governs the staff in two stages namely; the corporate level and the workgroup level.

b) Which of the five principles of BMO’s code of conduct is the most important and why do you think it is more important as compared to the other four?
Answer
First and foremost, it is important to note that BMO is one of the companies that prides itself on the ability to maintain the high standard of integrity. Therefore, the most important principle is, to be honest and respectful and this is because, a company that is governed by taking the integrity values into consideration all the other factors will fall into place and in addition, it would further lead to the success of the specified company. On the other hand, respect among the core workers and the management creates a conducive working environment that would ultimately enable the company to fulfil all its 5 set principles of the code of conduct.

a.) Choose one of the five fundamental values stated in the Saint Mary’s rules on academic integrity and student’s responsibility and comment on why it is important?
The most important value is honesty and this is highly attributed to the fact that, students who explicit high levels of integrity in school, have a higher probability of carrying out the same values and become better people. Furthermore, a student who has integral values has the ability to discern their responsibility effective and as a result, this would enable a student to avoid issues of plagiarism in their academic papers. In addition, every student prides themselves on the ability to perform effectively in any given examination, however; if a student lacks integrity, they may opt for easier methods such as; cheating in exams. Therefore, integrity is the most important value that a student ought to explicit and in turn, all the other 4 principles will automatically be encompassed.
Should Saint Mary University or any other University have such regulation-why or why not?
Yes, it should have regulations and the main reason behind it is to enhance a code of conduct of running the Institution. Furthermore, through entrenching such values on students, it enables a brighter future to be created as the same student end up in not only corporate positions, but also leadership positions and therefore, with integrity, success is guaranteed. On the other hand, other values such as respect would enable the students’ interaction to be effective due to the mutual respect accorded to each particular student at a specified period in the University premises and lastly, through fairness, it enables the institution to come up with a punishment that is equally compatible with the actions of student to enable fairness to be achieved.
