In the world today, there is the increase of the rates in migration as people travel across the borders. The reasons as to why several people are travelling is due to the numerous push and pull factors well known to them. In the light of the paper below, much of the concern will revolve around the Chinese sub-culture specifically their immigration. According to the English dictionary, immigration simply refers to the activities of human beings which involve passing across borders either for permanent or temporary residence in the area of their interests. Therefore, different people have different reasons as to why they opt to travel to regions away from their motherland. Several reasons would be given as a result since some would be travelling either for education purposes while others due to businesses among other reasons.
Early Chinese immigrants were pushed by forces that were in China by then, to immigrate to other countries. The Chinese people were also pulled in the United States by the attractions that were found there. The push factors came from natural disasters and the imperialist aggressions that were present in China. The pull factors on the other hand, were as a result of the gold mine that had been discovered in California. The economic opportunities in the United States were also a pull factor that attracted the Chinese people to emigrate from their country ("Chinese immigrants", 2016).
However, the host nations at times do not readily accept the idea of strangers flocking in their countries as they see it as a threat to their future. So as to understand about the whole issue of immigration, it is important to be armed with several questions that lead to the activity. First is to ask oneself if the migration is provoked by the internal factors or the external factors. Another question to ask is whether the immigrant travels voluntarily or due to other circumstances. Also, it is important to know as a scholar whether the immigration activity is illegal and should be prevented with all strength or it should first be analyzed. This is because in the past, there have been claims such as those of Samuel Huntington in his book about the clash of civilization where he speaks against these activities .
Huntington gives the idea that people travelling, especially across the borders should not be encouraged, especially in the United States of America. He says that through the mix up of several cultures there might be a conflict at the end. So as to grasp the whole issue of the Chinese immigration, the works of , are of great importance to look at. Ibid of the reference is that the issue of Chinese travelling dates many years back at around 1876, where they were migrating to regions such as California. In his article, Lee quotes H.N clement words a San Francisco lawyer who posed an alarm before the Senate Committee of California as he said that, “the Chinese are upon us.” He meant that their land was already being occupied by strange visitors and an action required to be taken with immediate effect whatsoever. Still in the reference is that visitors, especially those coming from the Southern Europe region in America have been received with a negative attitude all through. Native Americans worries about their privacy as the migration of aliens to their land keeps on increasing each and every day.
They fear that their future at one time will be affected by this if the state remains mute on the issue. China is a developed country with a well-laid economy and also government activities. Therefore, it is not clear to the Americans as to why there should be so much migration to their land. To be realistic in the future, the aliens would influence the activities in their host nation when their numbers become viable or countable. They may want to change the political outlook, the economy or even the social factors. This, therefore, the main reason as to why caution is of the essence to those seeking homage in the United States.
However, the cautious nature in the United States has contributed to the generalization of all individuals from China, including students, or other people seeking to travel to America. Everyone is treated as a possible threat to the future of this particular region. This is why (Lee 35-56), talks of a phrase commonly being used in the United States, “guarding the gates.” These words are being used to refer to the activities of protecting the borders in the prevention of any aliens, especially from China. It, therefore, shows how important the whole issue is taken by the host country. However, it is much interesting to note that still in this 21st century there are instances of racial discrimination in some parts of the world. In the United States, the ban on immigration is not tight on all people from all the parts of the world but specifically those from southern Europe. Lee notes that such measures are being taken so as to safeguard the sovereignty of the United States. Most surprisingly the discriminations are evident in the so-called measures.
This should, however, not be the case as generalizing of all individuals would create much suffering for even those that do not deserve. An amicable solution instead should be plotted in ensuring that all take up the much accorded responsibility in a neutral manner. Even though there is the idea of safeguarding one peoples’ future, it should not be an avenue to discriminate against certain groups of people. By so doing, it might even create many problems as there would be resistance due to lack of satisfaction with the way issues are being carried on. As Samuel Huntington in his “Clash of civilization" had noted is that, if immigration rules would not be taken care of with much concern there would be a breakup of a third world war, this time, it would not involve weapon but ideologies .
Nevertheless, this is not to pose blame to the measures taken by the United States government. They have all the right to protect the future of their people as well as that of their nation. The only challenging problem is that they base their concern on a particular race while relaxing the same legislation on other immigrants. In a book analyzed by (Lee 2002), shows clearly of how aliens from southern Europe are not welcomed in America, discussion by the Democratic Party in America about the anti- Chinese campaign explains it all. The book: the great success of Chinese exclusion goes, on the off chance that it got to be important to secure the American working men on the pacific slant from the unfortunate and the degrading rivalry of the Coolies work, the same contention now applies with equivalent strengths and relevant to the importation of homeless person work from southern Europe (Chinese).
It is a clear indicator that the heat revolving the whole issue of the aliens is so tense. The complicating thing is that, though measures are taken, they are affecting mostly a single group of people. It is disturbing to realize that even at this period people are living in despite the spread of civilization across the world there is still discrimination. In all the attempts to improve a particular law or regulation, consideration should fast involve neutrality. This is to say that they should not affect just a certain group of people. Everyone, regardless of where they come from should realize that their interest have been included in all manner. In return, there is endless peace as even there will be mutual sharing amongst nations either through ideas or even technology. For example, China has a lot to share with others as it has developed greatly.
The main agenda of discussing this issue is simply to bring into light the revolving tense in immigration. Everyone has a big responsibility in ensuring that, peace is created across the world and that humanity is regarded with much caution as it deserves. In order to ensure that there is stability and also regard for individuals across the world, there has to be an aspect of concern for everyone. In the 21st century, the world has experienced great changes be it in the field of technology or even other developments. Therefore, if there would be any instance of conflicts the consequences would be worse than those realized after the first and the second world wars in the early 19th century. Bearing in mind the kind of weapons that have been developed to date and more sophisticated continues being manufactured. It means that care should be taken not to start any conflicts in the present or the future. A lesson of Second World War consequences is still felt till to date in France, where its two towns were attacked by the United States using nuclear weapons, and people are still suffering in the region.
There are different reasons that intrigues a person to learn about the subculture of Chinese immigration.Statistics show that quite a number of the Chinese people are able to speak different languages. It is out of curiosity that a person would like to know why the Chinese have so many mother tongues spoken within their metropolitan area.It is also important to understand the customs of a particular culture as this helps to avoid misunderstandings and thus creates a rapport building process between different people.Another thing that would intruge a person to study the Chinese immigration is to be enlightened as to why the Chinese community is claimed as the largest cultural groups in Toronto.
Therefore, in conclusion, though immigration is termed as illegal particularly in some regions of the world, it should not be misconstrued so as to close doors for others. However, as civilization rises in several parts of the world, Concern should be put to make sure it does not lead to conflicts. It is true, according to Samuel Huntington in his book: clash of civilization that, the desire for various people to spread their culture and also economic ideologies would require being looked into carefully. The failure of this would just worsen the situations. Immigration is not an evil act, but well-laid reasons should guide it.
