Education is considered a field of vigorous and persistent work that welcomes those willing to strive for it. The fruit of education is sweet but hard to seize; thus, knowledge is only attained when a student is ready for thorough and continuous work. As some students appear to be not quite ready to face the challenges of education, suffering frustration or moral distress, they are very likely to neglect responsibilities of their status. In this light, it seems to be logical to divide students into active and passive ones. The demarcation line between them goes along the idea of the adopted approach. While active students develop an energetic approach, with assiduousness and zeal marking their stand, passive students tend to fall into indifference and disinterest, which results in a sluggish and boorish approach to studying.
Active and passive students have hardly anything in common, except for the desire to obtain a diploma. However, the means for achieving this goal are different. An active student might not be able to boast of excellent academic performance, but he/she puts all the efforts in order to succeed. Thus, an active student is sincere in his ambitions and boldly goes to realize them. On the contrary, a passive student searches for excuses of his/her detachment, hoping for a better day to come or a better opportunity to be used. Such a student is unsure of his/her potential and chooses to stand aside rather than participate and eventually go further.
Another important aspect that characterizes the adopted approach is attitude towards others. As for active students, they tend to take fellow students positively and expect to improve themselves by sharing perspectives, embracing new ideas and initiating cooperation with others. Active students are not afraid to fail since they believe that mistakes make them wiser and more experienced. In contrast, passive students fail to demonstrate a proactive stand and give way to indecisiveness and fear of failure. It is not that passive students don’t want to study because they are lazy; they are rather afraid to fully accept the challenge and survive it with their heads raised. Passive students fear difficulties and disappointment, which consists in a major difference from active ones and, as it was mentioned above, concerns solely the overall point of view.
