When I look globally, the crucial role of discrete branches of Engineering in the modern World inspires me to be a part of the stream. The applications range from designing the vehicles, the construction of buildings to space travel. The groups of smart thinkers and inventors have heavily contributed to the development of various aspects of the modern day life that eases the daily needs with technology derived from engineering skills. The implications of Engineering have inspired every possible sector like medicine, entertainment, commerce, trade, transportation, navigation and much more.
Since a younger age, I gained inclination towards Engineering. My father’s occupation as a Civil Engineer in a private company gave me the opportunity to understand the field better in both theoretical and practical terms. Although, it was difficult to understand most of the technical terms that my father and his coworkers used to discuss, but I enjoyed the wider real life applications of this field of study. The working environment had the enthusiasm whereby each person contributed for a task and applied novel ideas appropriately.
The inbuilt curiosity to understand the intricacies of Engineering made me choose the appropriate subjects of physics and mathematics at the school level. Since childhood, the numbers were my play field and subsequently the intellectual challenges offered by both the subjects made me keen for finding solutions working deliberately. The instinct to follow my dream never led me lose interest and the dedication imparted me the ability to work hard towards the goal. With the honed skills, I was able to make these analytical subjects to be my strongest subjects at the school. Thus, I realized that I had the basic skills that are required for pursuing an Engineering career.
Along with the academics, I participated in extracurricular activities as and when I found the rightfully interesting field. I was a member of the School’s Robotics team that gave me a practical experience of designing and implication. The team competed against other schools in the region; hence, developing rightfully competitive expertize. The tasks undertaken made me realize the strength of team work. The desire to contribute towards social causes made me participate in organizing a charitable run that supported organ donation. Also, I represented my institution at various Model United Nations Conferences developing the leadership quality. The ability to express my ideas justifiably to the audiences improved my public speaking skills.
In 2012, I joined CPP, a highly selective scholarship program run by one of the largest Oil Companies in the World Saudi Aramco. The ten months long program was designed to impart a plethora of knowledge regarding mechanical engineering to prepare future Engineers for the University. I learned a lot about Engineering in general and Mechanical Engineering specifically. The frequent trips to different oilrigs aided me in gaining an insight of the job. Every field has its difficult aspects and the interaction with the expert Engineers allowed me to face them with solutions. Furthermore, the Engineering education courses offered by the program helped me decide my forthcoming career.
I gained an edge of self-dependence once I moved independently to the United States last year. Being in a foreign province is a challenge in itself but it has been a wonderful experience and I have attained the confidence to manage things on my own. The consistent toil and persistence made me overcome all the obstacles and helped me obtain a pleasing GPA.
