For a variety of reasons, it may have taken me more years than some people to decide that I want a career in the healthcare industry, but I do believe that the extra time has also given way to the extra interest and passion that I have to fulfill that desire. I have had the opportunity to receive some education with a focus in healthcare and have been able to work in the field in a few different positions. Through these opportunities, I know that this is the career path that I wish to pursue at this time in my life.
My adult life began with a few poor choices and some difficult struggles. I faced these challenges head on and found opportunities within them. By the age of eighteen I was the mother of two children. I had made a poor decision to not finish high school, which I later rectified by continuing my education by pursuing vocational courses at Keiser College in Dayton Beach, Florida. I had been inspired to continue my education after working with the geriatric population as a resident aid in an assistant living facility. I was making a positive difference in the lives of others every day I went to work. I knew that I wanted to continue to make this positive impact in some way as a career. It was a fulfilling experience each and every day.
Desiring to do even more, I continued my education and earned my license as a Certified Nurse Assistant. I saw this as an opportunity to do even more to enrich the lives of the residents with whom I worked. I am able to deliver better and more types of patient care with this certification and I am able to make a bigger impact in the lives of the residents.
Knowing that education is important towards a career in the healthcare field and now knowing myself that this was the path that I was destined to pursue, I made the decision to return to school and earned my high school diploma. For me, this was a great accomplishment. I wish I had done it sooner, but more importantly, I did fulfill my dream. I saw this as a stepping stone to even more education. I continued my studies and next I completed and became certified as a phlebotomist.
Achieving an educational dream that I never believed that I would ever be able to accomplish as a teen mother, I enrolled in college and completed my Associate of Arts degree. Graduating empowered me in a way that I never thought that I would be able to feel and accomplish something that I would be able to attain.
Through each step of my education I have been able to accomplish more in the healthcare field. I am able to deliver more types of care to the residents I encounter. I am better able to serve the needs of the residents. I can provide more care and I can help to make their lives more comfortable and worthwhile. Knowing that I am making a difference impacting the lives of others through my interactions with them has helped me to realize that I do have a true gift and talent in this area.
I am now enrolling in the University of Florida to further my educational journey. I desire a bachelor degree so that I can be an even greater help to the residents with whom I work. With this degree I can make a greater impact in the facility in which I work and continue to bring excellence to those I serve. I am focused to complete the next step of my educational journey. I have the drive and the desire and know that with my determination that I will be successful in this next step of my educational journey. I am inspired to achieve success and serve others, I have found my calling, I have a passion for the work that I do, and I am determined to enhance the lives of those I serve each and every day. I need to further my education so that I can make a bigger impact in their daily lives, and I am willing to complete the work to successfully help them have the best lives that they can each and every day.
