Occupational Therapy
Experiences That Might Impact In My Career as an Occupational Therapist
The dawn of my desire to pursue a career in occupational therapy occurred when my father had an accident and an occupational therapist had to be assigned to him to help him out of his conditions. All my family members were excessively happy to see father recover. Perhaps, I was the happiest because, besides celebrating my father’s recovery from the accident, the encounter with the occupational therapist had acted as an eye opener that enabled me to see the realities of being able to touch the lives of people by helping their sick relatives and friends recover from a destitute condition. To me, there was nothing is more rewarding than being an element of comfort and a symbol of hope to people who are in bad health condition together with their relatives and friends; I made a resolution to become an occupational therapist.
My principal goal in Occupational Therapy is to use my acquired knowledge and skills to offer quality service to clients while strictly adhering to professional codes of ethics. However, this is not achievable if I do not get quality training in this field. Professedly, my decision to join SUNY Downstate Medical Center was facilitated by a careful and thoughtful consideration moderated largely by my pursuit of a vocation that bests suits me. Besides, the course will go a long way in imparting in me skills utilitarian for teaching autistic and mentally impaired children. Ideally, getting a scholarship to pursue an Occupational Therapy course at SUNY Downstate Medical Center will give me a much-needed opportunity to fulfill my childhood dreams of becoming a health care expert. I am opinionative that such an opportunity will enable me shape the life experiences I have had so far (from volunteering for instance) into being useful experiences in health care delivery.
