After much deliberation on my part, I have concluded the best place to continue my education is Lynn University. The combination of academic, social, and cultural environments stands out to me, and I am sure they prepare all Lynn University graduates for success. However, what stands out most is the diversity of the campus. As an international student who has learned the importance of an education both in and out of the classroom, the value of a multicultural campus where one is able to learn not only from faculty, but also from peers is very important to me.
My education began in my home country of Saudi Arabia, where I studied natural science. There is still much diversity in Saudi Arabia, and I learned many things from the people around me. Admittedly, however, it was not until I came to the United States in hopes of learning English and completing my Bachelor’s Degree that I began to see just how diverse the world could be.
At home, there are many different people of all different nationalities coming and going. Things can be tense at times, just like the can be here, as I have noticed. It was a failure on my part to take in the diversity back home because I had grown up around it. Many of the cultural customs were normal to me, and I paid little attention. When I came to America that changed, of course. Though I had read books, seen television and movies, and met the odd American, it was nothing like being here. Moreover, I have not only met Americans while being here. People of all creeds, colors, and backgrounds come to the United States to study, work, live, and even die.
Lynn University has a wonderful environment to study in without a clamor for diversity. The community on campus is safe, and seems wonderful. The community surrounding the campus also seems like what I am looking for. Furthermore, the faculty and staff all have proven helpful and knowledgeable in their various subjects. There is not a doubt in my mind if I attended Lynn University, my education would flourish, and I would learn many things outside the classroom, as well. What makes Lynn University so perfect is the diverse population it offers. I do not have to search for a school offering a diverse student population or surrounding community from which to learn. It is also nice to know there is a place where I would fit in without fitting in. In a place where there are many different people, I can be myself, and learn from others being themselves. There is no need to worry about conforming, only understanding and learning from one another; this is something we often overlook.
As already stated, one of the goals I had when coming to the United States was to learn English. I have done that quite successfully. After completing twelve levels of studying, the course was finished and I was proficient in the language, allowing me to learn from those around me better, not only in terms of my peers, but also in terms of my teachers. Though it was difficult, I knew it would be worth it. Now that it is completed I am ready to begin the second leg of my journey, obtaining my Bachelor’s Degree. I believe studying at Lynn University, with its thoughtful and knowledgeable faculty, and its diverse student population would be the perfect fit for me and the goals set for myself.
I look forward to working with you and making your institution proud.
