This paper makes a summary of the conclusions in the form of a discussion of the conclusions and further provides the premise upon which the conclusions are based. Similarly, the paper develops a proposition as to the pieces of conclusion that are best considered and that avail the greatest contribution to the understanding of the development of the discussion. We begin with an outline of the conclusions and then move on to expound on them in the next section.
Conclusions
Adult education provides a potential or opportunity for advancement of the learner in their education. Also, this form of education makes available more opportunities for the learners besides creating a whole new approach to education. In addition, consumers of adult education have better and increased understanding of the education and its use owing to their experience as compared to conventional young learners. Further, adult education offers the learners with a great enrichment in both their personal and family lives.
It is a fact that adult education provides an opportunity for advancement for the adult learner. In the past, education was not highly valued in most societies as it is today. Consequently, most of the people were not keen on education, a fact evidenced by the uneducated or partially educated group of the old generation. As such, the emergence of adult education could not have been a better solution in filling this gap as adult learners who missed out on education are able to get another chance to refine their skills. This view is premised upon the support offered by Nordlund who singles out this transition to secondary education and tertiary education as resulting in societal transformation. This view also finds support in the work of Fenwick who emphasizes the role of the adult learners in achieving life fulfillment that could be missing owing to losing out on education during their time. This position must have informed the numerous academic tertiary institutions which have embarked on the introduction of special courses that are keen on the understanding of the adult learners. In this way, we could argue that adult education plays a complementary role by causing stability in education achievement. Closely related to this is that adult education provides more opportunities for the learners in terms of higher job prospects. The positive effect on the jobs is reflected in increased wages and incomes of the adult learners which in turn results in improved living standards of their families. This view is anchored and premised upon the studies done by Reese who established a nexus between increased adult education or academic qualification and an increase in opportunities and income.
Further, and in contrast to young learners, adult education provides a new holistic approach to education or learning as well as enabling better understanding among the adult learners as they combine both experience and education. In essence, the adult learners know the skills gap in the market and as such they have the benefit of hindsight are thus more intent on acquiring the knowledge as compared to the young learners who may only be keen on acquiring an academic certificate. For instance, adult education results in greater social accountability and psychological development. This argument is supported by Demidenko who examined the benefits associated with adult education. On his part, Miser argues that adult education provides the adult learners with knowledge necessary to make decisions in various areas as parents and even leaders.
The best pieces considered in this analysis or argument are those that posit that adult education provides an opportunity for advancement as well as increased opportunities for learners in terms of increased job prospects. Indeed, the idea as argued, that a huge chunk of the older generation missed out on education owing to the lesser value attached to the same in the former years and that adult education offers a second chance to them to acquire personal life fulfillment is supportive of this opinion. In addition, the benefits attached to education advancement cannot be gainsaid. Employers are always conducting in-service training for their employees as well as other vocational training to ensure that they have the skills to match the changing career world, a feat achieved by adult education. Adult learners who have taken advantage of adult education have better employment prospects which results in increased income and wages.
Research Question: Are learners who receive adult education more experienced and better equipped in the job market as compared to conventional young learners?
