Over the years, nursing has tended to advance in one way or the other. The advancement is one regarding technology and at times the way the nurses carry out themselves and their nursing duties. These improvements have been attributed to various conflicts. Over the years, researches have been conducted for the reasons that have led to these said advancements. Nurses have advanced their practice over the years to correspond with the improvements in innovations and changes in times, needs, and customers’ expectations.
The research carried out by Thomas David Barton (2012) showed the various improvements that have been experienced in the line of the Nursing career. The study revealed the following as the advancements that have been seen. From the mid-20th Century, nurses have started specializing in particular medical fields. This is a characteristic that hadn’t developed before this period, and further, this development hadn’t been entrenched in the nursing field until the past century or less. This is since in most instances, the nurses’ abilities were always extended and they were required to perform all the activities. However over the years, specialization is a vital part of the nursing profession. For example, a nurse may specialize in pediatrics of even she may specialize in surgery and that is what he or she will always perform in the hospital.
The research that was carried out by the National Advisory Council (2007) was able to stipulate the various reasons that have led to the advancement of the nursing practice. It specified the various conflicts to include, the shortage of nurses and the available nurses are continually aging (council, 2010). These reasons, and further the fear of the workforce declining, have led to the various developments such as specialization as depicted from the David Barton (2012) research. Moreover, the issue of modelling the syllabus in a manner that will enable the nursing students to develop skills and the curriculum to be able to be practical in what they theoretically learn in class and when they come to the field itself. In conclusion, nursing has advanced over the years and through history to a level that has, in turn, led to new advancements that can last for the future times.
