Portfolios are supposed to be the most effective and successful way to accumulate and demonstrate information. This type of obtaining information not only shows your creative and non-standard skills, but also helps to organize, self-assess, and correct the errors. In the modern system of education, student’s portfolios are widely used as well. Organizing all the materials into a portfolio, a student demonstrates acquired knowledge and plans the further studies.
After analyzing and evaluating students’ projects, it was complicated to choose the best one, since every portfolio has both strong and weak sides. However, there are also points which are equal for both projects. So, it took some time to make up my mind which portfolio was better and explain my choice.
As for me, the best portfolio is David Castillo’s Portfolio. On the very first page, he notes his purposes and describes them in an understandable way. It should be mentioned that he shows also his creativity by posting Isaac Newton’s quotations and his portrait as well. By clicking on different parts of the website, we can discover every detail of his portfolio, which we want to know. Moreover, he uses his own photos and pictures to make his portfolio more exciting to read. Every picture maintains his ideas, though, the selection of pictures is debatable, as he could have used more professional pictures, but not from the Microsoft collection. On the other hand, I like the theme and the color used for this portfolio. It looks stylish and comfortable to read without any eye irritation. Taking about the font, David makes a little mistake, to my mind. The font which he used for his portfolio is rather trite and its size is rather small than appropriate. It’s a pity that there are no videos in his portfolio for making it more interactive and eye-catching.
In my opinion, the worst portfolio is Ann Daminique Marcera’s Portfolio. First, at the very beginning, she describes her purposes in a very vague and blurry way. Since she included too much personal information and too little about her future goals, I got bored and even lost after reading all those passages. This part of her life shouldn’t be described so vividly or even left out. Second, Ann doesn’t attach enough images which show her creativity and proves her real intention. Talking about some media and interactive resources, there are no videos or slide shows as well. Since, there is only text I wasn’t excited to read all this information. But I really paid attention to the section her personal professional goals, because Ann describes them precisely and even shows her desire and passionate in those words. Third, the selection of the websites color and attaching her personal photo in the header can’t help satisfying the readers. Meanwhile, the font and its size should have been better. Since the size is too small, it reduces the level of readability and makes some irritation afterward.
After taking into consideration all the items which were discovered in the portfolios and described above, David Castillo’s Portfolio is the best as it reveals all the elements which are necessary for a proper portfolio. Though there are still mistakes and some misunderstandings, this portfolio is more readable and understandable concerning his future goals and intentions. Moreover, he shows his creativity in a moderate way, but still he uses some interactions to catch reader’s attention. Ann Daminique Marcera’s Portfolio seems to be better at the first sight, but after deeper analysis, I came to mind that her Portfolio is the worst. She doesn’t manage to demonstrate her real intentions and future goals. Since she describes more information about her personal life, I got confused if it is her personal blog or the student’s portfolio. And the last item is that she doesn’t attach enough pictures which can represent her ideas and just make her portfolio more bright and admirable.
